Clydebank, Scotland. M Monochrom mk1, 28mm Summicron ASPH mk1

Shot this picture this afternoon. Clydebank was virtually obliterated by the Luftwaffe in the second world war because so many of the shipyards were there. A lot of the post-war buildings which went up in the bomb craters were uninspired, to say the least. The residents of these tower blocks have been relocated elsewhere. The buildings lie empty, waiting to be demolished.

Thanks, Lex. There's definitely a sadness about any place that humans have deserted

I also think that, worldwide, the architecture following WWII was very bland, which I believe reflected an apocalyptic world view.  It seemed for a few decades that we were all going to go up in one great nuclear fireball, so why bother building beautiful structures?  Washington DC is a great example of this where the pre-War Federal buildings are quite stunning.  Then there is the drab architecture of the 50, 60s and 70s.  Then when the Berlin Wall came down and the USSR collapsed an optimism about survival of the planet and humankind crept back into art, especially architecture.  This is one reason why I believe street photography is so important.  Contemporary street photographs are just daily life that we strive to make interesting through capturing patterns or gestures or interesting light, but even bland old street photographs are fascinating to see how life was in yesteryear.
