This thread is suffering from overposting by a few members; I have hidden some posts. It is a an unwritten convention that we leave space for other participants. I hear the traffic cone is now in the Ukrainian colours.  For those who don’t know that after many years of the council removing the traffic cone and it reappearing every morning, the council now leave it there .

Yes, I saw that about the Ukrainian colours. Me and my friends once put the cone up there, when we were students. It was at night, and we'd had a few beers. The council had thoughtfully coated the horse's legs, (and the duke's sword) with mastic. We went for a kebab afterwards, and the man in the kebab shop asked us if our car had broken down. He thought we were covered in oil.

I noticed that the council have since removed the duke's sword. Looks as though they used oxy-acetylene cutting equipment. It's not very neat. The sword hung below the belly of the horse, and it was an easy thing to grab on the ascent. Putting a traffic cone on a statue is one thing but, frankly, it's the council who are the real vandals here.
