I know there are no people in this so some may say it's not 'real' street photography. But I like it.

Leica M Monochrom mk1, 50mm Summilux ASPH black chrome

I think I've previously posted a more heavily cropped version of this shot, but I just recently came across it, and am struck by a few things that I wasn't at the time I took it.

I shot this picture in January 2020. It's the Barrowlands ballroom in Glasgow. Anyone who has tried to photograph the famous neon sign knows how difficult it is. The sign lights up one letter at a time, then when the word is complete, the stars light up as well. It's like this for all of a second and a half, then it blinks and goes dark, to repeat the process. You only have a second and a half to get the picture of everything lit.

I only took this picture because I happened to be in that part of town, and there was something on at the Barrowlands. I thought little of it at the time.

I look at it now, only taken this year, and as a lover of life, and especially live music, I'm saddened. Live music in an indoor space, bus passengers without masks, not socially distancing. This picture shows a bygone age, a vanished world. The world before COVID-19.
