Steve Ricoh Posted August 23, 2017 Share #1 Â Posted August 23, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) Comparing my M6 to 2 independent light meters it looks lik the M6 is under exposing by about 1 1/2 stops (against a Sekonic 18% target). When exposing film I use the handheld meter, but it would be good to have the M6 calibrated. Â My question: Can the M6 Light meter be calibrated/adjusted as part of a CLA? Susie Posted August 27, 2017 Share #2  Posted August 27, 2017 Hi,  I don't wish to ask the obvious, but was the ISO setting on the camera the same as on the meter? My M6, which I bought new, is still good after 22 years. It is the early design without the TTL facility.  Susie

I'm interested to know if it can be calibrated during a CLA, ie is there a means of adjustment, a potentiometer for example. But what's absolute, all light meters seem to differ, if only slightly. Doc Henry Posted August 27, 2017 Share #4  Posted August 27, 2017 Steve , sorry a little late my reply  As I bought new M7 and MP I cannot answer you for the lightmeter of M but recently Leica Wetzlar has refurbished my Leicaflex SL, they have reviewed the lighmeter It's now fine and color (or b&w) is exactly well exposed. You can send a message to Leica CS to have advice. Best Henry
Steve Ricoh Posted August 27, 2017 Author Share #5 Â Posted August 27, 2017 Thanks Doc Henry, it's worth asking. At the moment I'm compensating the offset by ISO adjustment, further compensating the in-built 'grey meter' for how I envisage the scene. Lots of compensating going on!

https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/270500-help-no-one-can-fix-my-leica-m6-ttl-light-meter-not-even-leica/ I knew I should have got myself an M4. I suppose the ideal M is one without electronics to go wrong.

Steve Ricoh Posted August 28, 2017 Author Share #9 Â Posted August 28, 2017 Take the battery out. Yes but I could have had a brass battery-less M if I had thought wisely.
Maarten Posted August 28, 2017 Share #10 Â Posted August 28, 2017 (edited) Not much hope of a repair... Â https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/270500-help-no-one-can-fix-my-leica-m6-ttl-light-meter-not-even-leica/ Â Obviously the TTL light measurement circuitry is more complicated than the non-TTL. My non-TTL M6 was serviced and adjusted by Will van Maanen just one year ago. Â My advice is to ask a local (and not a Leica) repair service about the specifics for your camera. TomB_tx Posted August 28, 2017 Share #12 Â Posted August 28, 2017 My 1985 M6 was serviced earlier this decade by an independent tech, who got a new replacement meter circuit board from Leica, as the old had been damaged by battery leakage. So indeed the M6 may be easier than the TTL model for parts.

As discussed in the second link, repair costs could easily exceed the original purchase price!

earleygallery Posted August 29, 2017 Share #17 Â Posted August 29, 2017 CRR Luton list meter recalibration for the M6 on their price list which suggests it is possible. That said they also list a price for R3 shutter repairs but said they couldn't do them when I enquired about mine!
