I get your points, but was responding to your comment above...

You wrote...“There is no dealer selling brand new cameras to people waiting months on a waiting list at used prices. DREAM ON”

This is false. I could only give you the CL example, hence the $400, because that’s the only current Leica that’s fresh and wait listed. A few years ago, I could have pointed you to new S007s for thousands off list. Some of those dealers won’t even stock it anymore because of all the mess.

I guarantee that after the 008 has been out for some months, if there is one, I could find one for less than list while some here are still complaining about wait times. But that probably won’t be necessary since I’ll more likely be searching for a deal on an XD of some type.

While I won't debate this, I am still not entirely convinced the next S is actually being called "type 008". Following Leica's return to the roots naming concept (M8, M9 .... M10), I can see a S3 appearing as well.

But wouldn’t that be the S4 (not counting the original S1)? S2, S006, S007...

But then again, the M10 should be the M11 (after the M240).

I would agree those kind of reductions (5-10%) from list price are quite common.

My idea of genuinely "used" prices is 20-30% off list price. Dealers don't do 30% off list price from just released items.

So from complete denial (rubbish, dream on) to a matter of degree. “We know she’s a prostitute, now we’re just negotiating price.”

Different dealers do different things for varied reasons. Get to know some shop owners personally and you’d be surprised what can be worked out if timing and circumstances are right. I’ve had those discussions regarding the S system, where unique opportunities were created at some dealers as a confluence of issues materialized.... lens issues, client service screw ups, over supply at lower purchase costs, and a desire to bail on the system. Discounts were never advertised. And they weren’t just 5%.

Of course sometimes circumstances change even years after product introduction. I recall when Leica temporarily reduced the 006 to $6500, a huge reduction at the time, when the 007 was introduced. You snooze, you lose. Just as the B&H discounts on the X1D (that I first posted here) might disappear if they’re merely based on over supply. Unfortunately I don’t know their owners well enough to know.

I bought my S007 new for about 80k RMB brand new in 2016... so that's about 12.5k USD, now second hand, they are still going for about 60k RMB. S006 on the other hand is about 24k RMB second hand... good bargain I would say.

That's how you do things. That's not how everyone has to do things. I don't have much interest in searching and haggling discounts.

I know my dealer well, they look after me and I look after them. We help each other out.

I choose a camera, I buy it and I rent it out for every job I do. The camera is paid off in 1-2 years and I spend the next 5 years or more making money from it and then I do that process again.

Of course, and other people have even different approaches; none is better than the other. Whatever works. I use different buying and selling approaches myself, but the availability of the S at significant discount prices was known to those following the market and doing just a bit of of research, including just reading comments on various forums at the time.

I wouldn’t have even bothered sharing the S background if you hadn’t put me in a defensive posture by writing “rubbish” and “dream on”, effectively calling me a liar. Oh, and “pointless”. Not the best way to foster a discussion.

I would suggest leaving out the insinuations and posturing to begin with. I'm not even sure if you're aware of it but you can't seem to help yourself but argue.

Anyone who pays full list for an S system is likely wealthy, not very resourceful or oblivious.

As I said, not very resourceful.

I was responding to your own post, silly.

For me to invest any more into the S system the new S has to be smaller than the current S, have a minimum of 60 megawatts and be mirrorless with or better than the current SL EVF.

If I stick with the Idea of getting a X2D that needs to have an EVF also equivalent to the SL or better.

Saying all of that. If my up and coming photo tour to Europe and Africa with my H6D100c shooting street, landscape and the Oromo tribesmen turns out okay then I will give the S and X2D a body swerve all together.

not so amazing. The art of street fhotography is waiting for and anticipating the moment ........ easy once you get the hang of it.

I will get H6D100c and Chamonix 8x10 and compare. I will let you decide what you like best

I have only done 4x5 comparison to a 80mp CCD back, and I will say, I very much prefer the CCD with Rodenstock HR lens combo as it is way sharper even with a Imacon scan....

but I believe 8x10 will be up to the detail level of a 100mp back

The price needs to come down as well.  The current price point is simply not realistic anymore.  Times have changed.

Hi, Neil,

Not an expert of Hasselblad H. How are their lenses? Have you compared the result of H6D with S007 with 120S? What lenses you used for your Hassy system. How they compare to S equivalent? speed and performance wise.

michael the HC lenses are amazing. AF is Fast and accurate. It’s not possible to compare the H6D100c with the Leica S007 as there’s 3 x the resolution .......... I’m keeping my H6D100c

I have the 50mm II 100mm f2.2 and the 150mm f3 something. I’m concentrating the HC300mm for Ethiopia but haven’t made my mind up yet
