I'm curious if anyone has noticed any difference between Heliopan, B+W, or Leica branded UV/IR filters. I somehow ended up with a mixed bag of these (some came with lenses, etc.) and I'm curious if it's worth the trouble to standardize on one brand or the other. I'm fond of the construction quality on the B+W MRC filters, but I could be swayed another way. Of the three, the Leica branded filters are my least favorite, construction-wise. Does anyone have an opinion? I suppose I could set up my own tests, but being lazy, I was hoping someone else already had. Thanks! Jim. P.S.: I bought a second-hand M8.2 in 2009, and since I'm not independently wealthy or a working professional, I can't justify upgrading at this point. I consider going to an M9 every so often for the full frame, but I'm actually quite pleased with how the M8.2 performs. 15,645 frames so far and going strong. My favorite are the Leica filters that allow to remove the glass of the filter and have an internal thread to screw another filter or a hood into them. Also Leica is the only brand to sell a special UV/IR filter for the Summilux 50/1.4 v1 & v2. If money is a concern, Rocolax is another option. In the first days of the M8, Leica UVIR filters were scarce, so I was forced into trying Heliopan and B&W. When the Leica branded filter arrived, I did a side-by-side and we toe a review. My summary, the Heliopan filtered out the most IR, resulting in the most saturated colors, Leica was next with more neutral, for an M8, colors, and B&W was third.with a small amount of IR sneaking through. I somehow ended up with a mixed bag of these. just try to think like a manufacturer: two of these makers of this very special filter have their plants not more than an hour away from each other, the third is just three or four hours from them. do you think it would have made sense for each one of them to build up a complete production line for this very special filter? well, i think, it wouldnt. i think they shared just one line, branding the filters just the way they wanted. maybe they just shared the line for the glass or other parts. but i am almost certain, that these filters were optical identic.
