Weighed mine on kitchen scales. 24-90 weight 1265g without hood.

I also like to mention that it seems pretty flare resistant also without hood. I put a b+w protection filter on it and use it often without hood (at least inside) which lets it appear a little smaller.

I would invest in the magpul strap which rrs sells to fit into there baseplate it's a new thing with them as not on my S system baseplate but wonderful and really well thought out. I regularly wear it with my 90-280 on all day

It is a bit tricky. If you put two cameras next to each other on the screen and choose the camera plus lens icon, then waggle your mouse about above the cameras you should see an invitation to add a lens.

Camerasize.com does not show a lens attached from all angles of view. It will show a lens from the top (overhead) view, and the front view, for size comparison. And even then, not all lenses will show up. I have the 24-90 zoom, and it is fast and awesome, but also heavy. Definitely not a carry around on your shoulder all day long lens. It's sad that even some of the SL primes are almost as big as the zoom, and even more expensive! Thus many of SL owners are using M lenses or TL zoom lenses as an alternative [emoji4]

I don't carry the weight of the SL + either zoom on my shoulder. I have a bag with a good, broad strap and pad that distributes the weight across my back and shoulder nicely for camera and one lens ... The camera is in that if I'm just carrying it, otherwise it's in my hand or on a tripod or monopod. 

 

I haven't carried the camera and multiple zooms yet. For that a backpack will be essential for hiking any distance (Think Tank Trifecta 10 for me) or my Pelican rollaway with a custom insert. No need to do torture to my body...

 

Normally, if I am carrying the camera and two lenses, it's a pair of R lenses (50-90, 50-180, 19-50, etc) in the Billingham L2 slung bandolier style across back and shoulder. That's a reasonable package to walk with.

I had frozen shoulder. Took 6 months of remedial massage and daily stretching exercises but I've been pain free for several years.

 

The SL/24-90 is about 2kg. Use a sling strap if you want less shoulder weight and stretch like your physio tells you three times a day and you'll be fine.

I had the same thing but it went from my left to the right shoulder. This happens in rare cases I was told. A few years later I had to have both shoulders operated on for my AC joint. That was now 10 years ago. I am able to lug around my SL with 24-90 pain free. I exercise regularly to keep them in shape.....!!!!!

Yes, it grows by about the same 20mm to end up as the same length as the Nikon. So what? That's a given. 

Unfortunately, camerasize.com doesn't allow a dynamic view to show all the possible configurations of each lens. 

 

The two photos I posted illustrate the fact that the two camera/lens packages are comparable in size and weight overall. The body of the Leica is thinner and nicer in the hand, for me, than the bulk of the D810 body. The Leica lens is a bit shorter when at 24mm setting, and the lens is a bit longer overall due to the 20mm shorter lens mount registration distance.

So we can see via the camera lens website comparison that the SL and zoom weighs 1987 grams (4.3 lbs) to the Nikon's similar body and zoom 2050 grams (4.5 lbs)

While that is a fair comparison it still shows either one is a fair amount of weight to be carrying on one's shoulder for any amount of appreciable time. 

Having owned both of these cameras in the past, I did sell my Nikon outfit and kept my never to be parted with SL and 24-90 zoom. That being said:

 

Did I mention how my M-P 240 and 50mm Cron is my everyday grab and go camera outfit.

I'm not sure where this is all taking us. The 24-90 zoom is what it is - some issues (f-stop, register distance, focal range etc) result in unchangeable dimensions. The lens is actually no smaller, bigger or heavier than it needs to be. The comparisons show that.

 

Similarly, the SL & zoom is made by Leica, so it will be well made (heavier than plastic equivalents). I suspect it's lighter than an equivalent R system (interesting question).

 

Too heavy and bulky to walk around with? Not in my experience. If I had to leave it at home, I'd sell it. In January, I took the SL and both zooms on a 4 day tramp - perfect for such a camera system.

Same here, but I go with the M-D body. It usually has either a Lux 35 or Cron 50 on it.

I recently bought a Summaron 35 from a list member and have spent the day with that on the SL. Later I'm going to weigh it!
