Robert E Posted March 11, 2017 Share #4 Posted March 11, 2017 If you click on some of the detail options, you'll see the shipping out of the EU comes from Hong Kong. To USA they are selling for around $5,700 USD. This is consistent for what you will find on eBay for Leica coming out of Hong Kong. Most of the time they are legitimate sellers, but as always, do your homework and be careful on eBay.

Bill W Posted March 11, 2017 Share #6 Posted March 11, 2017 I bought my SL as a Certified Pre-Owned from a Leica dealer. It looked just like a new one in every respect including a Leica warranty. I paid $5,600 and it included free shipping.
scott kirkpatrick Posted March 11, 2017 Share #7 Posted March 11, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got a similar deal. Not even "pre-owned" but with a 1 year instead of 2 year warranty. Also under $6K in the original box with all accessories. The 24-90 SL zoom has also dropped in actual price. scott
jaapv Posted March 11, 2017 Share #8 Posted March 11, 2017 Thanks to all I'll keep buying in Europe :-) I had excellent service from eGlobal Central. It is a cheap HongKong supplier, but their local presence in Europe functions well.

phovsho Posted March 11, 2017 Share #11 Posted March 11, 2017 FedEx doesn't slap you with the charge. Your government does when the goods clear customs.

AlexP Posted March 11, 2017 Share #14 Posted March 11, 2017 and the suck part is that the adapter defective. I returned back. well FedEx also slaps you with a charge for handling the customs payment. yup...$22 Lesson learned. Never buy anything from Euro. phovsho Posted March 11, 2017 Share #15 Posted March 11, 2017 It's a reasonable expectation that you are going to get taxes and charges when importing something as expensive as Leica gear. That needs to be factored into your thinking when buying overseas. It's also reasonable to expect a fee from FedEx for the "service" they are performing. jaapv Posted March 12, 2017 Share #16 Posted March 12, 2017 and you have not to pay additional fees to customs when it comes in France or Germany ? No. They guarantee no extra costs. Somehow it gets shipped locally. Don't ask me how they do it. I have a feeling I don't want to know. I bought from them twice and twice no charges. I have no idea how they handle returns. However, one item I cancelled because I had to travel at the time they would deliver, and after emailing back and forth they agreed to hold delivery until a specified date, which they did to the day, and I got a 60 Euro bonus for staying with them. jaapv Posted March 12, 2017 Share #17 Posted March 12, 2017 and the suck part is that the adapter defective. I returned back. yup...$22 Lesson learned. Never buy anything from Euro. Normally it works the same the other way around as well. UPS, DHL, Fedex, the mail, they all are the same. They even hit you with costs for "nothing to declare"

phovsho Posted March 12, 2017 Share #20 Posted March 12, 2017 I would suggest any company that says they are charging you for a tax they are collecting on behalf of the government and pocket it themselves are committing fraud!
