I tried one Canon lens today in the shop; the 16-35 III; but it didnt focus exactly on the spot chosen. Manual focus brought the correct focus (moving the lens towards infinity slightly). So, I tried my 70-200 and that was the same. 

 

It looks like they are front focusing but is that possible with a phase focusing system?

I'm afraid not. The EF 100-400 L II is great for that sort of shooting - on a 5DIV

From my own experience of using AF of the Canon 100-400 L v2 with the Novoflex adapter on SL (FW 3.0), I would clearly choose another combo for fast tracking AF...

 

To say AF works involves being very tolerant. Those lenses are generally marginally used for slow speed photos...

The Novoflex adapter would work with my Canon 17 TSE lens to change apertures fine. When I picked up a second SL body, (new ..), the Novoflex would not work on the new body. I took the body back and got another new SL body, and the Novoflex adapter worked.

My use for the adapter is only for changing aperture, not AF.

Thought I would add my experience to this thread.

The Novoflex adapter has issues, as anyone reading this long thread has realized.

hello - when mounting 3rd party EF adpaters (leitax) on older MF glass, i'm getting no image in either the viewfinder or the rear display, yet after depressing the shutter an image is taken as it shows up in the review... anybody else trying this and getting a better result?  these are non-chipped leitax mounts.  i can't understand how that would make any difference at all.

following up the last post... sorry, i see that a couple others have experienced similar non-compatibility issues.  

 

new question:  has anyone tried using the dandelion chips with non-chipped mounts in order to see if they are compatible with the novoflex adapter?  

 

in the meantime, i've ordered a fotodiox EF to M to go to the Leica M to L adapter... i'm hoping the fotodiox is solid enough that stacking mounts isn't an issue.

And is there a non-AF adapter for EF lens to SL camera that gives you aperture control from the SL?

Some experiences from my side for Sigma f1.8 Art in Nikon mount, but I would expect the findings to be representative for Canon mount as well. The main issue with the Sigma f1.8 Art: Find a good copy...

How about for the upgraded SL body to firmware 3.2, does this Novoflex still works same or was there improvements as well ? Appreciate feedback so I can make sound judgement for this adapter investment.

Certainly with the Nikon AF adapter the various FW changes do not seem to have made much difference.

 

It does beg the question of whether Leica has incorporated FW support for the Canon and Nikon adapters in collaboration with Novoflex, or whether the adapter works independently of SL FW based on some generic assumptions.

 

I suspect the latter .... which would account for the very variable and often flaky performance .....

I tested the magnificent Sigma 2,8/150 mm Makro (ZE, non IS).

Absolutely unusable with AF. Erratic misfocusses and camera freezes.

The good news - manual focus works! ;-)

I tried the adapter with the Canon 70-200 f2.8 II and it works very very well (fast and precise AF).

Canon 135 f2 don't work!!! I read instead that it should work well... my SL has firmware 3.2

I don't think anywhere says 'should' ...... it's all 'probably', 'maybe' and 'possibly' ......... compatibility is very variable and unpredictable ...... hence the advice: 'try before you buy'
