That hood has not proved adequate on my last few shoots. Flare has been a issueIs anyone using a different hood? Rainbow Imaging is a USA vendor but has cheap Chinese hoods and ships quickly. The Chinese vendors like HeavyStar take a while. 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
lct Posted February 21, 2017 Share #8  Posted February 21, 2017 (edited) Filters never improve flare resistance needless to say but the Summicron 50/2 is also the culprit in that it does not like strong light sources outside the frame like many Leica lenses BTW. An umbrella, a hat or your hand will make enough shade in most cases but there are also 39mm hoods available on the new & s/h markets. Couple of copies below. Some of them can be screwed into the filter w/o causing vignetting if the filter has an internal thread. All my Leica 39mm filters allow that. This way the filter thread of the lens won't be damaged if its thread pitch is not the same as that of the hood.  Welcome, dear visitor! Â The cure from past posts is to make a circular cardboard for the rear of the lens. Â Then cut as large as possible 1:1.5 rectangle out. Â Paint dull black and tack to rear of lens. I use it with built in hood and original Leica UV filter.It is like white spots, the camera M6 is with full CLA by Leica Austria, with new seals, so light leak is excluded. Keeping it well outside the frame may help to avoid flare when shooting into the light. Otherwise, try to make some shade with your hand, a hat or an umbrella.
