ECohen Posted April 27, 2017 Author Share #81 Posted April 27, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use an Aunts and Uncles Miles Hunter vintage brown Postbag (24 x 33 x 9 cm) with an Ciesta M size insert. It fits perfecty an you will have enough space for a camera and 3 lenses. The A&U bag has an excellent quality! This combination has made my Oberwerth Bayreuth obsolete Love the little bag ......for me the Postbag looks too heavy As the OP I went with the Billigham Digital Hadley and couldn't be happier
Advertisement Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Hi ECohen, Take a look here Yet Another Bag question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
satureyes Posted April 27, 2017 Share #82 Posted April 27, 2017 What bag does Billingham make that is made of leather pray tell? And a matter of curiosity who was the bag manufacturer you spoke to and of what? You said he was looking at your bag, which Wotancraft model was it? I don't want this to become a slanging match. The observation on the Wotancraft was on the finishing of the leather and how it's 'fraying' because the leather isn't sealed well and it's layered of varying quality I think. The inside of the canvas - the lining was also pilling. As far as I know Billingham use high grade leather on the trim and some straps. The bags are canvas or a composite fibre lined with waterproofing. The bags I've seen from years ago are probably testament to the materials in that they last a long time. Agent M10 Posted April 27, 2017 Share #83 Posted April 27, 2017 . This discussion didn't instill confidence... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/227763-be-careful-trusting-the-strap-on-your-ona-berlin-bag/ Jeff I bought an ONA bag and quit using it about a week after I bought it. Overpriced and under crafted. Got an Oberwerth and have not looked back.

Well I obviously can't comment on your Wotancraft bag (I'm still curious what model it is). I have the Ryker and the finish is outstanding. Everything is double stitched, the leather is high quality, areas of wear and edging on the top flap are reinforced, metal studs help to secure the shoulder strap and so on. Also there is no canvas at all in the Ryker and the purple lining is luxurious..... As noted in a post above I also own two Billinghams, the oldest a 335 bought new in the '80's. I think the longevity of these bags speak for themselves though the velcro in my Hadley Pro (2003) insert doesn't hold any more which I find a little annoying. The finish on the Foggs is in a different class altogether. If a Billingham will last a life time a Fogg will last two lifetimes. You do pay for it though because Foggs are expensive. Of course Wotancraft being much newer to the market only time will tell how long they hold up. However I'm confident the quality and finish on my Ryker is right up there with the Foggs. Jeff S Posted April 27, 2017 Share #85 Posted April 27, 2017 I bought an ONA bag and quit using it about a week after I bought it. Overpriced and under crafted. Got an Oberwerth and have not looked back. The Oberwerths do appear to have quality construction, although I haven't personally experienced. But how do they do in the rain (e.g., the leather/cordura bags)? Jeff

It was the Ranger. Got the waterproof insert too which is very well sealed to be fair. There's just too many straps and things. It's also hard to work from if you need to access stuff. I have also the ona Brixton which is a great physical size and can swallow my full kit with the clever addition of more dividers, but the leather is thick and adds to the weight. The inside is passed well but the Velcro has caused a lot of pulling on the lining. I'm looking to replace my Wotancraft which I use to carry the full M kit at the moment - about 5 lenses and the body and flash. I wonder what bag will take all that? I could certainly recommend the Fogg B Major. Size wise it is between the Billingham 335 and the Hadley Pro and would fit your full M kit. The other line of bags I've looked at are the Oberwerths. They seem really well designed also. I only picked the Ryker ahead of the Freiburg was it was cheaper.
david strachan Posted April 28, 2017 Share #89 Posted April 28, 2017 OMG...another, and another, and another 5 pages on bags. If it's not straps, it's bags. If it's not straps or bags ...it's should I buy this lens.? Can't people do their own research and choose without doing a Facebook thing? A lot of it sounds like being a poseur. please no more.. Exodies Posted April 28, 2017 Share #91 Posted April 28, 2017 My theory is that (some) people know what they want and they are searching for the words to make their choice seem more objective. It's harmless. Talking about pictures - well, for me it's as useful as dancing about architecture (FZ).
humerc Posted April 28, 2017 Share #92 Posted April 28, 2017 I see no problem with such discussions, its a camera related theme, so its absolutely in the right place here, but I also see that there are many bag-threads, so its from great interrest for an big part of the community, maybe an section for bags and straps would be a good idea. ECohen Posted April 28, 2017 Author Share #94 Posted April 28, 2017 It's a bag ...its a lens ... photo related stuffWe no longer have camera shops (at least where I live) to see test and try out the tools we use....So whats wrong with folks telling stories and helping out others? I never heard of many of the brands you all have suggested .....Its just more research and honestly I trust this group more so than anonymous professional reviewers. If the subject doesn't interest you, don't post. But why rain on the parade of others? As for getting opinions on the photos I make.... after 40 years I'm pretty secure and my clients have proven ..... not to make photos by consensus opinion I sincerely thank this esteemed group for my continuing education
