That is funny. The main reason I did not get the M10 is because it lacks Video...

It is not a defense, it did not even address the problem at hand.

It was genuine puzzlement. If you look back in the forum you'll find that I have been advocating multiple smaller cards for years.

The reason to choose an sdxc card was to have fast uploads of the images to my computer. Further it was clearly promoted in the manual.

Sandisk Extreme Pro 128 GB    = 95 MB/s

LexarPro 1000x       16 GB     = 150 MB/s

The manual tells you to use fast cards, not specifically large cards ;)

You could of course get a Toshiba Exceria Pro 128 GB @ 260 MB/s, but at 350 $ is seems to be a bit pricey, and the camera could never keep up (Or your reader, for that matter).

A 16 GB card will store 1600 images, a 128 GB card will store 9600.  Nuff said.

Indeed, and it was not the only one. Mine is totally stable, whichever card I throw at it. I have no explanation. BTW, what is the use of a 128 GB card? Thousands of images on one card. And then the dog chews it...

So no M10 buyers come from either M240 or SL users? 128g is very appropriate for those cameras as the video eats up memory. It's very practical to use a card on hand. Besides 32g is problematic, so why not?

Or are you saying we should go back to the 2g cards from our M8, and carry 10 cards so if your dog eats one it's fewer images lost?

I still have my Leica 512k SD card, it's should hold about 36 images.... ah, back to film!

As I read the manual, the 2 GB cards need an extra reformat to be usable at all in the M10 :p

No, I am not saying that it is needed to go back to small cards for SL and other video-enabled cameras. What I am saying that it appears to be  a viable workaround for the (hopefully short) time being on the M10, and I will say that it is a bad idea and a recipe for trouble to swap cards between different cameras. It is far better practice to have dedicated cards for each camera type you own.

If a card works, it works!

I select my cards on my most extreme need. If 99% of the time it's mostly empty, that's fine.

Note: I didn't say to swap cards. I said a card on hand. That could be a new unused spare. I often buy one or two cards just in case, that go unused until an emergency. I agree swapping cards even amongst same model camera is unwise.

my card is 32GB. I do not think it is related to card size.

In 1999 (the year that SD cards were introduced), I had a Sony MVC-FD95 with 2.1 megapixels and floppy disc drive - we've come a long way! ;>)

BTW, my M10 is currently quite stable with SanDisk 16Gb cards

Yes, My father had one of those. I went with an Apple QuickTake.

Funny that you don't even own the camera you are so quick to defend.

The M10 manual recommends SD cards "with high capacities and read/write speeds allow data to be recorded and retrieved very quickly." Go figure.

Also, I'm not so sure I understand why using an SD card in another device is such a no-no. Assuming a proper full format prior to using it in the new device, there should be no issues.

Huh? Uh, no they wont. Not even close. A 16GB card will hold about 350 RAW+JPEG images. I determined this by putting a 16GB card in my M10 = 354, 32GB = 704

I didn't have an available 128GB card that works in the M10 to check, but it is much less than 9600 shots.

You assume too much. Leica has a history of issues along these lines. Variations even among the same model can even make cards unusable. Apparently between card variations and leica build variations there are often issues. Leica can address most of these issues in firmware, but not always.

Your reply is confusing.

My assumption was that using an SD card in another device is fine, assuming you do a full format to the card before using it in another device.

That would be ~1382... depending on if the directory splits twice.

Well, that might indicate some fault with the card, according to Sandisk's figures.

Edit:

Ah - I see the confusion. Sandisk assumes 10 MB JPGs.

Still, 128 GB would make over 2800 images according to your figures. 16 GB would probably match battery endurance.
