Unless I get a crazy windfall ($), which is not likely in today's USA economy I will not get an M10 this year.

I got my annual financial report yesterday including taxes owed and all is good. I can get an M10 or two within my conservative, Scrooge fuss-budget. Interesting how being liberated from financial constraints opened a new  view.

I use two M9 cameras and given my requisites I cannot rationalize the M10. It cannot possibly help me be a better photographer. It might be important that I print small, with only a few exhibition prints being 40  inches on the long side. I'm happy and so are my viewers. (My work is not Fine Art).

That's the end of my quest - so far - :) I hope this post is pertinent to the subject topic.

After attending the local leica boutique launch on thursday, and then the work christmas party on friday, where i got to take a few frames using an M10 and 50APO at a dimly lit bar - i am trying to find a way to make the purchase possible.

A purchase is unlikely to happen this year but the M10 appears to be a nice step up from the M240.

There is still a few things i dont like.

1. No way to use flash and EVF at the same time

2. Smaller battery

3. The thinner body feels odd in my hands (my first M was the M240 - and i shot Canon 1D bodies for years too - the thinness feels strange to me - i am sure i would feel different if i had used film M bodies for years)

I don't think this will ever change with an M body. The M is a rangefinder first. If you need an EVF and a flash, you are looking at the wrong product. Have you looked at the SL?

The SL might be better suited for you based on your feedback. Its larger and more like the 1D than the M will ever be. It has an amazing EVF and works well with flashes.

Its extremely versatile as well, and accepts a wide variety of lens options...including Canon.

It might change, but if it does I think it won't be the camera, but the EVF. I could see in a generation or two that they may offer an EVF that maintains the hotshoe operation. Fuji has that on their new EVF for the GFX.  I don't think we will see a built in EVF for an M camera, however.

There is no stopping (or accurately predicting) future technological innovation. I wouldn't be surprised at all if, in a few generations, the M camera sports a hybrid optical/electronic viewfinder with an electronic (vs. mechanical) rangefinder focusing mechanism. I don't think they will go this route unless they can do it well, but I imagine they are exploring the possibilities. Who knows what the future will bring?

I wonder if someone, possibly Flashzebra, will come out with a flash shoe adapter that allows the EVF to pass through plus a PC socket on the side for side-mount flash, maybe even blue-tooth for wireless. It could look something like this.

Or perhaps one day (soon), EVF's will be so advanced as to be indistigiishable from looking through an OVF.

the M240 has the option with the grip - it has a PC socket on it

As much as i hate the PC connector - I would love to see it either on the back of the M, or the side of the EVF.

I have contemplated buying an Olympus EVF and attacking it with a dremel, just to see if i can add this functionality.

I do really like the SL, - it would compliment my M240 perfectly.

Just need to have a great year at work, then decide between M10 and SL (or wait for an SL2)

I no longer have any Canon lenses, they were all handed back when i was made redundant from my last job (and walking past the Leica cabinet at my new job every day isn't helping)

The SL is really nice...you also might look at used one. Prices have dropped dramatically since the M10 came out. Ive seen mint ones listed under $5k

Several dealers were selling new ones they called "demo stock" for under $5500

I was discussing it with a colleague today, while i was looking at his SL.

I may wind up buying his when the next SL is released.

Going to be looking and thinking for a while....

As a former Analog-Leica M user, I am working now with Sony A7Rii and mainly Leica M lenses, I am always thinking of getting a digital M, the M10 is the first one that might bring me back to Leica also for the digital work.

Last week I had a look at the SL and was impressed by the quality of the EVF, much better than the one on my A7Rii  and must say that I am a little sad that Leica didn´t use this for the external viewfinder of the M10. It would make it perfect for me when I need the electronic viewer.

But I am already saving for the M10, this time I might go with the chrome version.

I was not really excited after reading the specs of the M10.

When M240 was announced I was very excited and placed the order for M240 the day it was announced. Excited due the adaptability of R lenses on the M240 - needless to say, didn't get much usage of R lenses on the M240 so continued using my M9. My M240 gently weeps inside my pelican case.

Maybe the next M....

why is that?

I seldom use live view due to my eyesight- I always prefer to use the viewfinder. I didn't like the quality of EVF for M240 - It was really frustrating to use any lenses longer than 100mm. I wanted to use longer lenses like the 180/2.8 APO and 280/4 APO. I use M lenses for 28-90mm. I tried the R 80/1.4 but I preferred it on the A7R or D800E.

I didn't have any issues using long lenses with the EVF...other than the speed/extended blackout.

The M10 EVF is vastly improved in this regard.
