Perfect tone...this lens (the Elmarit 90) is, in my opinion, the most under appreciated lens in the entire Leica lineup.

I couldn't agree more with you. I also happen to have the 'cron 90 AASPH. Believe it or not, no matter how perfect this latter can be, still I prefer the Elmarit M, but I can't clearly explain why. It's a mix between tactile feelings and images rendering. Performance wise the 'cron is a bit better (very little a bit, quite indistinguishable in real world photography) but I love the Elmarit more. If I didn't need the f2 for peculiar applications I wouldn't even have dreamed of purchasing the 'cron.

Cheers,

Bruno

+1 on the Elmarit feeling 'special' (I have two of these...).

If you need f/2 and can live with a tad less sharpness up to f/4 compared to the AA, perhaps the last Summicron Pre-ASPH could meet both speed and rendering requirements.

M8 + 1993 Summicron 90/2 (apologies for the highly-compressed jpegs, but I'm currently away from my main computer)
