A quick, through-the-window test shot from my best copy of the Summitar (10-blades, uncoated) that's recently returned from a CLA. Not bad for its age.

... and two more in daylight (sort of...), wide open, showing a busy "foliage bokeh"

Same camera and lens as above

... and another one from the same combo, again @ f/2

Very impressed by the centre sharpness (for a 1939 lens). The importance of a proper CLA for these old lenses can’t be overstated.

Interesting that the bokeh in your last photo is less distractive than in previous one, Ecar.

Yes. I think it has to do with lens resolution, distance and something called "spatial frequency" (I read it somewhere - not sure I understood all of it). To my layman's eyes, it's a matter of background distance and its structure, for a given aperture - and lens, of course. Fine details (such as foliage) at mid distance are always a good "stress test" for lenses, whether I'm looking at in-focus resolution or oof rendering. Now, since my knowledge of optics/physics is rudimentary at best, I'm afraid you'll have to turn to someone more qualified than me for a better explanation.😅

And here's yet another "distracting foliage bokeh" one with the 1939 Summitar on the M10M, wide open

I hadn't used this lens for a while. Not the smallest vintage 35/2.8 out there, but quite good, relatively easy to find in decent condition and still affordable.

M10P ASC + 196X Komura 35/2.8 LTM, wide open @ MFD

Edit: I just checked and it's thinner and only marginally longer than the Summaron. Other 35/2.8's are smaller, though.
