Tonal range in this image is superb with deep blacks, clean whites and everything in between. How do you do that?

Thank you fotografr !

I did this shot a few years ago .  I must have played  the sliders in Camera Raw  (cranking up the contrast and managing the highs and lows ) and then added some local adjusments with the plug-in Viveza from the Nik Collection which allows precise dodging and burning like in  the old BW lab days.

From the same 2013 session:

Maybe I should really consider re-buying a M8 !

Best, JM.

Thank you. That's more excellent post processing. I don't think it's the camera, however. I suspect you'd get those results with any camera. I was surprised that you used the Viveza rather than the Silver Efex Pro 2. I'll have to look into that since I have both.

I use Silver Efex as a base zero-ing their clarity sliders, for their colour filters and some of their film presets yet I always adjust them to my taste.

I then combine the process with the zone control from Viveza, which is  very useful for its original purpose of local colour control  and very appropriate to grade shades of grey in BW.

Interesting lenses. What adapter are you using? I love the bokeh from the Chiyoda.

Yes, besides the well-known Canon and Nikon offerings, there were a number of small-to-medium size lens (and sometimes camera) makers in Japan in the 50s and 60s, most of which were short-lived. Some of them aimed to design truly innovative, ground-breaking (for their time) products, while others offered simpler designs and catered to the then booming, mass-driven photography industry. Chiyoda Kogaku is a bit different, as it is effectively a precursor of Minolta. For further reading, here's a third-party review of the 50/1.8:
https://lensqaworks.com/2018/04/26/review-chiyoda-kogaku-super-rokkor-50mm-f1-8-minolta/

And here's a comparison, from the same source, with other well-known Canon RF lenses:
https://lensqaworks.com/2018/05/01/resolution-test-ltm-lenses-canon-s-50mm-f-1-4-i-vs-canon-s-50mm-f-1-5-serenar-vs-canon-s-50mm-f-1-8-i-serenar-vs-super-rokkor-50mm-f-1-8-vs-super-rokkor-50mm-f-2-0-vs-minolta-md-50-f-1-4/

Incidentally, I agree with the reviewer that the Chiyoko 50/2 is a pretty good lens. I'll try and dig out some pictures from it later. The Chiyoko 45/2.8 is also an interesting, if "ergonomically quirky", little lens.
The good news is that these lenses are "sleepers" and priced accordingly - although finding copies in good condition can sometimes be challenging.

Regarding adapters: a simple screw-on LTM to M adapter ring suffices. There are several suppliers and come in different types. The cheapest Chinese ones are best avoided, although I have generally found those sold on eBay by "jinfinance" (no affiliation) of good quality. I usually have my vintage lenses CLA'd upon arrival and the key IMO is to assign an adapter to a lens and send in both lens and adapter, so that the RF focus adjustment can be made as precisely as possible.

Now, in order to shield myself from the wrath of Pete's highly-effective thread police 😅, below are a couple more pictures taken with the M10 and 1950 Chiyoko 85/2.8.
