This is one of the easiest to focus lenses that I've ever used.

This lens has a section milled out for use on an M-Mount camera. Nikon revised the shape of the mount when the M3 was announced. I've seen others like this one. It would not have been a problem for the new M-mount cameras, without the large collar around the release.

Today I took the CZJ Sonnar, 1949 Nikkor 8.5cm F2, and Nikkor 3.5cm F3.5 to the Museum. The lenses that DDD turned down in favor of the Nikkor 5cm F1.5 and Nikkor 13.5cm F4.

1936 Uncoated 5cm F1.5 Sonnar, wide-open on the M Monochrom. ISO1250. Walz coated Orange filter used.

same lens, also wide-open, ISO 10,000.

The 1949 8.5cm F2, wide-open, also orange filter.

And the little 1949 Nikkor 3.5cm F3.5, wide-open, yellow filter.

I had a later one of these years ago, this one is much better than it was.

Although I've posted a B&W version of this photo in the M8 section, I think that its worth putting a colour version which I have now worked on here as it illustrates the viability of the 21mm f/3.4 Super-Angulon on the M8 where it has a similar FoV to that of a 28mm lens on 35mm FF. Colour problems are less evident and whilst the centre is as crisp and finely detailed as could be desired, even on the M8 vignetting and a reduction in fine detail show by the corners, not that it is anything other than a very usable 'quirky and characterful' lens and one of my favourites.

Snowdonia National Park just before Christmas. [its currently being printed so I will be able to see just how effective and detailed it is as a print].

Just a quick test of a lens that was an absolute can-of-worms. A 1950 J-3 that turns out to be a 1943 Zeiss 5cm F1.5 Sonnar- based on the serial number found on the rear fixture after disassembling. Perfect glass, the focus was off by 2m at 5m and the optical module was glued into the focus mount. 6hours in Acetone, another 4hours to get the glue and loosened paint out of the mechanisms. Added a 0.49mm shim, relubed, much better.

Wide-open on the M Monochrom, just a quick test.

Infinity at F1.5. I also moved the rear optics in a little.
