I am personally blown away by the performance of the W-Nikkor 35/1.8 on the Mono.

I knew, it has a very high reputation, but THAT good? I wish, I knew earlier and found one earlier ;-)

I will very likely be hooked on that lens for a long time to come …

A pity, Nikon got bored, always making better rangefinder lenses than Leica back then and left Leica playing alone ;-P

I wish, Nikon would have stuck around longer, making such wonderful glass.

Here I have the two fastest high performance wide angle lenses of their time - first came the W-Nikkor 35/1.8 in early 1956 beating everyone on the market with back then astonishing performance (in this shot, every facial hair and skin detail is clearly, razor sharply defined):

35 ƒ1.8 W-Nikkor LTM - first shots - portrait - lady with hat by teknopunk.com, on Flickr

And a similar candid portrait (but this time during the night) with the first version II Leica 35 Summilux (infinity lock) - Leica bested Nikon by the numbers, offering half a stop more light but never got the same performance out of their 35mm lenses until the Leica 35 Summilux ASPHERICAL was introduced more than 35 years later ;-)

The left eye of the little chick is my focus here but it would probably take ƒ5.8 or ƒ8 to reach the definition and contrast, the W-Nikkor achieves already wide open at ƒ1.8 (!!!).

1957 Elmar 90mm f4 LTM - firstly on my M9 at f5.6 and close-focus, secondly IIIg/Tri-X/Ilfosol 3.

PS - how on earth does one space-out the images and/or put text in between in a post?

If you attach images then they end up at the end of a post. If you link to the image instead using the yellow "postcard" button with two mountains on it then you can insert the image anywhere in a post (this obviously requires that you have the image hosted somewhere).

Cheers

One thing that I think is worth pointing-out here (before everyone goes mad and posts linked images) is that very often, after say a couple years, many of those linked images are no longer where they once were - and threads become populated by those sad little boxes that say that the image is no longer available.

Keith,

Use the paperclip icon to upload the images from your pc and insert them into your post one at a time with a couple of carriage returns between them so that you can space them out and add text as desired.

Jeff,

Amazing collection of lenses at your disposal, it would be appreciated if you can share some information on conversion, images of old timers on M/S cameras, usual stuff to titillate curious :)

There is some interesting information on Cooke site on producing high quality cinematic lenses http://www.cookeoptics.co.uk/cooke.nsf/0/E9FC5B95075A04408525762C006E7F94/$FILE/F%26D%20Times%20Cooke%20Tour.pdf

While I have similar curiosity, as the Original Poster of this thread, would you very kindly start a separate thread to discuss lens conversions so that this thread remains as a place to post images taken through these wonderful lenses please?:o

Thank you in anticipation.:)

Hi Pete :

I am not an expert in modifying lenses. I send all my lenses to different masters to modify them depends on the type and range.

For M mount : I can sent to HK, Taiwan and Japan to modify.

For S mount : I mostly do it in Hong Kong as it's quite easy to find helicod in local market.

I am more than happy to post some of the finished modified lenses here to show you how it looks like after it's modify but I am not an expert to explain how it is done. However, I would love the DIY idea but just don't have the time at the moment. Still quite caught up with my business.

Finding time to take some lenses out for testing already used up most of my free time but of course I am enjoying every bit of it. :)

Cheers,

Jeff

shot with Nikkor 105 ƒ2.5 LTM @ ƒ2.8 + Mono

I love mine and actually wanted to grab a second sample, I saw at a shop Yesterday.

When I inspected the beaten up lens (mine looks like new and is complete), I was shocked as of the asking price - these lenses go up faster than the gold price recent years!
