MarkinVan Posted December 27, 2016 Share #1  Posted December 27, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) In the owners manual,  Appendix / Displays / In the viewfinder / monitor / In photo recording mode...  Lower right corner should be: remaining pictures ( Item 30 )  I have no remaining picture count.  Rather 1K and then when I hold the shutter down half way to focus it changes to L33.  ?  In Aperture priority mode.  Thanks
Advertisement Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 Hi MarkinVan, Take a look here Newbie Question. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Joakim Posted December 27, 2016 Share #2  Posted December 27, 2016 Maybe your memory card is so large the number of remaining pictures won't fit in the display and that 1K means more than 1000 pictures remaining? Do you have a very large card and/or the camera set to shoot jpeg only?
ramarren Posted December 27, 2016 Share #3 Â Posted December 27, 2016 When the number of exposures remaining is greater than 999, the display reads '1K'. The total number of exposures remaining depends on your image settings and card size. Â When you half-press the shutter release, the number changes to an indicator that shows you how many exposures can be buffered in continuous shooting. This is particularly useful when shooting repeated short sequences one after another in continuous mode. As you shoot in continuous mode, you'll see the number decrement. MarkinVan Posted December 27, 2016 Author Share #4 Â Posted December 27, 2016 That makes sense. Â 64 GB SD card set on DNG. Â Thank you. Â Manual is cumbersome and the download and print version do not seem to be updated with firmware update changes.
ramarren Posted December 28, 2016 Share #5  Posted December 28, 2016 ... Manual is cumbersome and the download and print version do not seem to be updated with firmware update changes.   You're welcome.  Yes, the manual is often a bit opaque, incomplete, and poorly designed. Things that ought to be highlighted often are not, things that are highlighted are often "Eh, who cares? that was obvious..." The full description of firmware update additions are only listed in the firmware update information sheets (which I've appended to the instruction manual's PDF as each was released).  I've been threatening to write an instruction manual since before I acquired the camera (I had the manual about three weeks before the SL was released). Perhaps I should get started on it...

ramarren Posted December 29, 2016 Share #12  Posted December 29, 2016 Thank you all for the supportive comments on the manual. I have some ideas ... can't promise anything, but I'll see how things go with them.
Bill W Posted December 29, 2016 Share #13 Â Posted December 29, 2016 Something like the appendix that follows each menu item would be a great start where one could look at the camera menu and then follow with the manual. What's in the included manual is ok but it leaves you with a lot of questions which leads to this forum for answers. FWIW.

That would be ridiculous.  Videos are useful for teaching complex interactive software and other things that aren't easy to put into words. Doing a video to show all the options of a menu system would be so tedious that no one would watch it.  I'm thinking of an ebook published in modules. Still in the think-tank stage, deciding upon the modules, ordering of instruction, etc.
