IkarusJohn Posted September 18, 2023 Share #4984 Posted September 18, 2023 Some boxes have the manufacturing date on the sticker on the beige cardboard outer box, some on the inner, silver and black box, and … some don’t have it at all.

69xchange Posted September 22, 2023 Share #4986 Posted September 22, 2023 (edited) Took the MP out and jeez the paint is super soft. Paint is already scratching just by handling the camera. Not the color choice for anyone who is OCD. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! It's meant to show wear, but if you want your camera to remain looking like new then that's not the finish I'd choose. Go for silver chrome or a black chrome M-A. I've had my BC M-A since 2017 and used it a lot and it still looks new.

Don't fret, it's intended to show wear. The later black paint (originally called 'lacquer' by Leica) of the MP could be a revised formula from earlier current version MP's. If it is genuinely a more delicate finish, only Leica would know that. I bought my MP new in 2005, it's well-travelled and the brassing is very subtle. It's ageing gracefully despite 1000's of miles and 100's of rolls of film and has never seen a half case. Brassy or pristine, I sill think the current MP is the most classy-looking of any past or present standard M camera.

I agree. And despite the fact that I prefer unmetered cameras and I wish the BP MP had the full classic engraving on the top plate, I still want one. Yes, my Two early MPs are heavily used but don’t show brassing as they “should” by today’s MP’s standards.

I suspect there’s a difference in the paint formula or how it is applied to the camera body now.

hdmesa Posted September 24, 2023 Share #4996 Posted September 24, 2023 ^ Don't forget that something as simple as a tiny bit of sunscreen residue on your hands can cause accelerated or immediate paint removal. Even on black anodized surfaces, sunscreen residue can cause immediate paint removal in places where the finish was already wearing thin, for example on the knurling of aperture rings and film rewind knobs.
