rpittal Posted December 16, 2016 Share #5 Posted December 16, 2016 Mine arrived a couple of days ago and so far I find it very comfortable, plus it keeps me from hitting the joystick accidently and turning off the magnifier when focusing. The Really Right Stuff base plate has a strap attachment point that is functionally the same as the built in ones on the camera body. I highly recommond the base plate. John Z. Goriup Posted December 17, 2016 Share #15 Posted December 17, 2016 I wouldn't consider the SL without the 'Thumbs-Up' bracket. I am old , have arthritis in both hands and it's simply awkward and uncomfortable to try to manage a relatively big and heavy camera like the SL and one of its native zooms without the additional leverage I am able to bring into play with the well designed 'Thumbs-up' lug. I have wasted money trying some handstraps and wound up throwing them all away, rather, I find the Thumbs-up indispensable for holding and handling the SL, regardless of which lens(es) is / are mounted on it. The RRS L-bracket, also a permanent resident on my SL, is a completely separate issue and does not interfere or supplement the Thumbs-up. I believe in configuring my camera for my convenience and comfort, and that includes the RRS L-plate and the 'Thumbs-up', looks & weight be damned. My only complaint is that the black paint which covers the 'Thumbs-Up' comes off much too easily and very early in the game, so after only a few days shooting, ugly brassy corners appear which to me look really shabby. I'd love to see a titanium or hard-anodized aluminum bracket to match the camera body finish and which stays pristine for a much longer time. I looked at the RRS website and the one pictured did not show a slot for a strap but reading down the page they did say it would allow for a strap and the pictured plate did not indicate such. In the Q&A section regarding the BSL, the RRS Customer Service Rep answered as follows: Alexander Hartmann · 3 months ago Is it possible to attach a handgrip strap at the battery side of the baseplate (like on the original handgrip)? JLoh Posted December 19, 2016 Share #20 Posted December 19, 2016 Have the ThumbsUp and am happy with how it improves one-hand operation, even with the 24-90. Fit is very good with the tightening screw in the mount. Two things I don't like are (i) the extra weight on an already heavy camera and (ii) joystick is harder to reach - wish I could replace the rubber nub with something taller.
