IkarusJohn Posted November 15, 2016 Share #21 Posted November 15, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Because they think we are idiots and will pay for anything... Bit harsh. Sure it's garish, but some will like it. I really like the idea that Leica will release something like this as it might appeal to some - clearly Dr Kaufmann likes it. Where's the problem? Advertisement Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Hi IkarusJohn, Take a look here APO 50 in red. Why?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
mikemgb Posted November 15, 2016 Share #22 Posted November 15, 2016 I have no immediate plans for replacing my black copy with a red one. You're not supposed to replace your black one, you're supposed to buy this one in addition. It's for the days you wear your red faced Rolex and want to coordinate. Peter H Posted November 15, 2016 Share #23 Posted November 15, 2016 Bad taste and a lot of money is a dangerous combination. But a very popular one.
otho Posted November 15, 2016 Share #24 Posted November 15, 2016 Time to execute diamond-paved Top Wesselton fancy APO version, like some Rolex, Hublot or Chopard watches...
earleygallery Posted November 15, 2016 Share #25 Posted November 15, 2016 Maybe they're planning a red M body to match? Could even be a 'Ferrari' badged edition, with a tyre tread rubber covering?

It's for the days you wear your red faced Rolex and want to coordinate. I don`t own a Rolex! They make a million watches a year. My watchmaker tells he is Lucky if he gets 1 or 2 of mine yearly. farnz Posted November 15, 2016 Share #27 Posted November 15, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not even any rhinestones on it? What a wasted opportunity. Is this the Vodaphone special edition? Pete.
ph. Posted November 15, 2016 Share #28 Posted November 15, 2016 Back when Alpa was about to go broke, they churned out goldplated versions of the 11si. I do hope that this is just a device to subsidise optical R&D. Other colours might serve the same purpose, so do bring out the palette. p.

ianman Posted November 15, 2016 Share #30 Posted November 15, 2016 People are going to buy these as an investment. And why not, it's probably one of the best investments out there !

Peter Kilmister Posted November 15, 2016 Share #35 Posted November 15, 2016 Someone with a red custom-made M might go for this (very expensive) choice. Each to their own. Chacun a son gout. (Sorry my keyboard doesn't have ^ as an option to accent words like gout.)
Giulio Zanni Posted November 15, 2016 Share #36 Posted November 15, 2016 It might produce red flare
Peter Kilmister Posted November 15, 2016 Share #37 Posted November 15, 2016 I had a pair of red flares in the early 1970s. Oh, sorry, they were flairs.
helged Posted November 15, 2016 Share #38 Posted November 15, 2016 Perhaps to get a hint of red flare?
rafikiphoto Posted November 15, 2016 Share #39 Posted November 15, 2016 Wow they never cease to amaze me. Every month a couple of useless tid bits have to show up on the market from Slomes. It would be nice if some of the resources taken up with development and production of these useless tid bits could be redirected to bug fixing/enhancing the existing range and repair and servicing turnaround times. I think you'll find that Leica has moved on from the guy grinding lenses also making the tea and opening the mail.
