wattsy Posted October 31, 2016 Share #342 Posted October 31, 2016 I still intend to try out this lens but, after using my 28 Summicron yesterday with 400 speed film and finding myself at 1/125 and F5.6 outside during the middle of the day (a not untypical, thinly overcast Autumn day), I feel the gas slowly dissipating.
ianman Posted October 31, 2016 Share #343 Posted October 31, 2016 Ian, I'm not sure why you seem disappointed !? It's a pretty slow lens by any standards, so there's nothing unexpected with those settings surely.
Robert M Poole Posted October 31, 2016 Share #344 Posted October 31, 2016 A lot of pictures on this site https://fae59.com/2016/10/23/leica-summaron/. I really like the rendering of this lens in these photographs... right up my street :-) From these pictures I prefer the colour to mono images as someone said in an earlier post. plantagoo Posted October 31, 2016 Share #345 Posted October 31, 2016 (edited) I've been in Wetzlar today to pick up a Q. Just went into their store to try out the new lens. It's really quite heavy for the size. It "looks" lighter... Built like a tank. There is some red shadowing on the right side in the pictures as others also noted in the german forum. Here are some pictures - also with the lens mounted onto my M. Quite like the looks attached to a silver body. Welcome, dear visitor! Rick Posted November 1, 2016 Share #347 Posted November 1, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I may not have the latest update to LR. I do not find a profile for this lens in LR. Is that true? Rick

Rick I have LR 6.0 it came with my MP and its not on my copy.....Aren't LRs lens profiles upgraded by Adobe as new lenses are released? Who could have predicted this lens release? and now that I think about it......Why would you want to "profile out" this lenses unique qualities? Aren't the flaws of this lenses its charm/appeal? Rick Posted November 1, 2016 Share #350 Posted November 1, 2016 I have LR 6.0 it came with my MP and its not on my copy.....Aren't LRs lens profiles upgraded by Adobe as new lenses are released? Who could have predicted this lens release? and now that I think about it......Why would you want to "profile out" this lenses unique qualities? Aren't the flaws of this lenses its charm/appeal? Well, because one of the lenses unique qualities, at least the original, is a substantial amount of red edge. Not all qualities are an asset, some are a liability. I find no profile in LR for this lens. Maybe, like you say, now that it has been released Adobe will provide a profile in an update. I have in the past set the lens to the manual code in the M and gotten rid of almost all of the red edge using the in camera profile. Again, I have the original and the in camera profile works well. But, you must use jpeg output to use the in camera profile, of course. So, I shoot the lens in DNG and deal with it if, I have to. Rick

Jeff S Posted November 1, 2016 Share #352 Posted November 1, 2016 Doesn't yet appear to have profile... https://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/supported-lenses.html#Leica FYI for Mac users, LR6.7 (current standalone version) requires 10.10 (Sierra) or later. Ted Lemon Posted November 1, 2016 Share #354 Posted November 1, 2016 I went out yesterday for the first time with the lens mounted on my 240. Had a meeting in London so took shots on the way over two hours from 10am, weather good! Not an optical wizard so can't tell if the glass matches up to the old version (my M lens collection is >2005). The lens is lovely to use, the focus ring situated perfectly, and within a few shots I knew exactly the focal length I was at without looking so great for the street shots. It feels light on the camera and obviously less obtrusive than my 28 Cron. The shots on my test page of my site have the image capture info at the bottom. I tried out differing scenarios, people, cityscape, close up (well at 1metre!), indoors etc. I shot on aperture priority and just changed the ISO when required. I wanted this lens for street and travel and I think it fits the bill. willeica Posted November 1, 2016 Share #355 Posted November 1, 2016 (edited) The pink edges are fixed in seconds in Lightroom. Lens corrections - manual- vignetting tool. If that does not do it completely, then desaturate magenta, red and/or purple sliders to taste. William Edited November 1, 2016 by willeica
jaapv Posted November 1, 2016 Share #356 Posted November 1, 2016 It appears to vignette a lot less than the original, or did you correct it?
Ted Lemon Posted November 1, 2016 Share #357 Posted November 1, 2016 It appears to vignette a lot less than the original, or did you correct it? Sorry should have mentioned PP. Raw/Compressed into LR6, cropped the Hobo and Qe2 images but others as taken with no exposure correction. Also no correction on vignetting, no profile for the lens yet in LR6 so just went without lens profiling.
wattsy Posted November 1, 2016 Share #358 Posted November 1, 2016 Ian, I'm not sure why you seem disappointed !? It's a pretty slow lens by any standards, so there's nothing unexpected with those settings surely. I'm not disappointed, just thinking about the limitations of this lens. I think I have to be honest with myself and realise that much of the attraction of this lens to me is simply that it seems like a nice thing to own – I suppose a form of objet d'art – much like I might like to buy a beautifully made, even if slightly impractical, fountain pen. Seeing the lens here in it's fancy silk lined box rather reinforces that perception. If I was desperate to own this lens for its optical and other photographic qualities I'd have been scouring the internet for one of the many fine condition original examples that have been available for years but I haven't been and I guess I'm not now.

I'm talking about the in-camera firmware profile here !
