Guest Nowhereman Posted June 9, 2021 Share #1741 Posted June 9, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I took the image below with the intent of B&W because of the high-contrast back light and, therefore, never thought much of the color version, which I've reprocessed here using the new Cobalt-Image profiles that I've just bought: these profiles are as good as making custom profiles — and, if there in interest, I'll start a thread on these profiles. My image in the post above this one also use these profiles, as does this image. The image below was shot at noon in blinding light, and was underexposed by two stops to preserve the highlights: I'm interested in how this type of light "bleeds". Guest Nowhereman Posted June 10, 2021 Share #1743 Posted June 10, 2021 Sorry to litter the thread, but here is a correction to the image in post #1742, in which I needed to darken the ¾ -tones a bit. As @Steven has mentioned, how the LUF shows colors and tones can be problematic, even after you double-click on them t get a better view: but, in this case, it's the comprosided LUF view, that made me see that I preferred, in any case, to darken the ¾-tones. Guest Nowhereman Posted June 18, 2021 Share #1752 Posted June 18, 2021 (edited) I believe that I've posted this image in B&W a long time ago. Now, I've reprocessed it using one of the Cobalt-Image Lightroom profiles . While, in this case, the Cobal-Neutral profile in very close to Adobe Color, there is a subtle difference in the blues, which I like.M10 | Summaron-M 1:5.6/28 | ISO 200 | f/5.6 | 1/125 sec | Turks & Caicos Welcome, dear visitor! fotografr Posted June 23, 2021 Share #1753 Posted June 23, 2021 (edited) My neighbor has this beautiful '56 Pontiac that he likes to park in his driveway during the good weather months. I like to use it as a test for lenses and have photographed it with various 28mm lenses, 35mm, 50mm and 90mm. I think the 28mm Summaron produced the sharpest, best looking image for me so far. I'd suggest clicking for the ligthbox, higher res version. Welcome, dear visitor! Also, this lens really shines in film. Digital we tend to kill any lens’ inherent nature with all kinds of presets. Even the way that light hits the sensor, the angle, kills the lens’ nature with digital cameras.
Guest Posted June 23, 2021 Share #1757 Posted June 23, 2021 38 minutes ago, Steven said: Just got mine last week.... not extremely amazed so far... One problem you have is that others have said how much they love the lens like myself for example but most people who bought the lens had low expectations [like me] but were very impressed by the images when they started using the summaron. Its like watching a movie that everybody told you was fantastic if you get my drift? Anyway take a few pics of your children at f8 with a decent shutter speed and have a close look at what you see,you might start warming to the summaron then. Do not forget you told us all you always shot wide open so you need to adjust your style and thinking to get the best out of this flawed reissue of a very old lens. In other words give it a fair chance to charm you.

Try in lr - boost temp to 5000. Boost clarity to 50. Boost sharpness to 50. I find the lens is "cold" / has a blue tone - which can be nice sometimes if you want a certain mood. But can be dialed out of you don't.

Give it a chance , you may grow to appreciate its rendering more over time. I got mine when they first came out so did not know what to expect, but can understand what you are saying. Conscious we are in an 'Image' thread here.
Cobram Posted June 24, 2021 Share #1760 Posted June 24, 2021 2 hours ago, Steven said: You summarised it perfectly. It's a great lens, but below my expectations. These expectations were boosted by you guys. What is really think about this lens is the following: - I am impressed at the image quality it delivers in such a small package. Very sharp, reliable image... - I am disappointed in the way it renders. Everyone told me it had a vintage look. I don't see it at all, vignetting aside. I find the image to be tack sharp like a modern lens. It actually looks a lot like my Summilux 28 at 5.6. This is not at all what I personally call a vintage look. I'm not saying I dont like it. Just that it's not what I expected. I definitely would recommend this lens, and I will keep it myself. I just would not at all describe to someone who's looking to buy as it was described to me..... I told you before that you will try the Cron at the end... 😅 Gentle rendering... 😉
