[...] What are you talking about?

I won't talk without a lawyer! Just kidding. On, say, inferior cameras (Sony, Fuji etc.) i don't need any coding to get auto iso and it works perfectly with inferior as well as superior lenses. But with my superior cameras, this is way too simple. To get auto iso working normally i need either (1) coded lenses or (2) chimping to set "Lens Detection" on "Manual" and choosing the proper profile in the list displayed on the LCD. Oh well for non coded lenses or DIY codes working on some superior cameras and not other superior ones but inferior to the latters from this viewpoint. Clear enough? :D;)

Why would you need to do that for auto ISO, and for which camera?

Clear as mud?

And to quote ianman

"I had no idea that the 6-bit code or choosing the lens manually had any relation to auto-iso."

Teach me something new...thanks

"I would not put any six bit codes on my original lens as it would de-value it as a collector's piece."

I think we all missed this lens was in the profile list (anyone spot any others?). You can of course select it manually to get any benefits of the profile.

I would have thought that this item in the list is only made visible once the firmware has "seen" the lens. I can't believe nobody would have seen it if the entry was already visible.  Maybe someone with a 240 can verify this ?

Glad to hear that. I don't recall it being there when I did my test shooting last May. Now one can keep the collector's piece intact and get the 'benefits' of whatever Leica has put into the in-camera processing systems. It still helps to know how to correct these things in post processing. That way all of the bases are covered.

Too difficult with words, let alone on Sunday, sorry mate. If you have a superior camera put a non coded lens on it, try auto iso and tell me how it works.

I tried a summicron canada 50mm on my M 240. Put it on auto iso and all photo's are well lit. Only thing is. Every photo is on 200 asa an shutterspeeds of 1" , or 0,24 etc. conclusion: auto iso does not what is supposed to do I think ( because I never used auto iso. )

200 iso is not auto iso for sure... Does not work on my M240 either.

Just checked mine and you are correct. That's clever!  Sorry William - duff information.

Thanks for sharing. Makes me realize that the 28/5.6 lens profile was waiting for its time in the M240_2030 firmware since April 2016.

I think I did not see it, because the 28 is the last one in the menu. " Logic " if you select on maximum apuerture instead of " angle " : 28mm

Here is a coupe of shots I took with the lens outside an abandoned building in Beirut.

So I put an uncoded 35mm Cron on my M9 (I have no idea if this is what you call an inferior camera ?) and set it up for auto ISO and took 3 test pictures. One came out at ISO 500, second at 200 and third at 2000. Seems to work fine on the M9... interesting, I had never used that feature :-)

Well ....you learn something new every day. Thank You!

....I guess I never noticed I never use auto ISO

Camera  lens detection on auto...non 6bit lens  Auto ISO doesnt work

So If I set the lens manual ....then Auto ISO works?

I'll have to make some tests tomorrow ...to see for myself
