Having discovered, that I need an international driving license on top of my EU license and that mine has just expired, it might be a good idea to check the same for yourself...

Stefan

Thanks again Stefan, I've just checked and I'm okay with just my British licence.

Regards, Tom

Mini update on restaurant selection.

Currently I am favouring the offer from Rococo in Acland Street, St Klda. That is coming a bit out of left field, but it was highly recommended to me by a friend who has owned two restaurants and know what she is talking about. My first impression of the restaurant was good and there is a facility for having a (semi) separate room for ourselves. Menus look good and maybe I will try it out next pension day. :p

I will post the website and menu here soon.

Nothing in the city Earl? Southbank area has a good buzz, nearby...but I have no idea, how the challenge is run for the dinner.

It's a bit of a hike to St Kilda for us imports... ;)

We certainly appreciate your looking into something beaut though..

Dave,

I did study a wide range in the CBD with a view to confining it to that area, but thinking outside the square (literally) I realized Acland Street is a short tram ride from the CBD and introduces participants to another famous area of Melbourne. A bonus is that Luna Park is nearby and a few guys/gals will probably enjoy shooting the Night Challenge in and around there.

I will shortly test the tram ride for time and location just to be sure.

Then come.

Wife is pregnant with our first baby, so am feeling a little apprehensive about a raft of things including the health of both the wife and baby, and also about medical bills (ultrasounds, med tests, specialist fees etc), and other oncoming baby-related finances. I guess an M10 is well and truly out of the question!

Very busy with work as well.

*edited - I should note that both the mum and baby are healthy at present but we are at the very edge of what doctors recommend as the preferable age bracket of having a 'robust' pregnancy so we're excited but also apprehensive and ultra careful.

There is an off chance a photographic device may be smuggled into the dinner. Don't know if anyone will be capable of using it though!

That would be good, I hoped at least one of you owns some kind of a photographic device to document social gatherings like these. :p

I haven't found anything about the night challenge...is there a link anywhere as to when, how, times, etc...from past Challenges?

All best...

When you can't drink anymore at the official dinner, you stagger out of the restaurant and if you have brought your camera, take a couple of pictures and then upload them to the forum. All very serious.  ;)  ;)

For the benefit of "1st timers", (all the Aussie shooters), I shall shortly post a link to the usual rules and habits etc. Briefly, there are two Challenges. The Day and the Night Challenge. The Day is the serious one, the night one is just as serious but no prize for the winner. Details tomorrow when I have a few moments.

Yes I need educating on everything too. I read from the Lisbon one about 2 hrs to shoot and 36 exposures and the equipment rules but I don't know anything about day or night challenges or the judging or any fee to be donated ect etc

Hi John,

Confirming that Elliebelle and I would love to attend the official dinner, wherever that may be, I would suggest Southbank for ease of access seeing everyone is there anyway, also, you may consider the Langham's restaurant - Melba, great smorgasbord, does cost a bit at around $90 - $100 per head but lots of seafood and other good quality grub.

Also, just a reminder that Elliebelle is a member also and will be in the challenge. (She was part of the inaugural Melbourne Challenge)

Thanks for all your hard work John, much appreciated.

regards,

John.

Woo! Flights and accommodation booked. I arrive on the 6th and fly home on the 9th.

Staying just across the river at Travelodge in Southbank. An easy stroll across a bridge and very close to the Belgian Beer Cafe...Ahem

Very senior moment. It was just pointed out to me that, while my accommodation is booked correctly I booked the flight down for March instead of April!  Got it fixed now. I arrive early afternoon on 6 April and fly home afternoon 9 Apr...Whew!

I propose a pre meetup meetup with the Travelodge guests for evening 6 Apr too,

Out of experience, this is easily arranged; ideally, we drop a meeting time in the lobby here, otherwise there will be a group standing around, where miraculously everyone carries the same camera...
