I see things not so negative. Compared to the last three years it is very bright, indeed.

There is a roadmap of Leica lenses - and it offers some interesting lenses. (Ok, not enough) 🙄

There will soon be a large quantity of compatible lenses from others. And the future of the l-mount looks suddenly rock-solid, compared to the past when it was not even clear if there will be adapters for foreign lenses.  👍

And there will even be a choice of several cameras.  🙀

+1. Hopefully Sigma will add to the mix with a FF Foveon sensor in the not-to-far future. The mix of various L-mount bodies, plus the availability of new Leica, Panasonic and (especially) Sigma L-mount lenses in 2019+, should enlighten existing and entrain new L-mount users and, importantly, open a (somewhat) more affordably price level to the system. Good, good, good.

I don’t know. But I would be extremely surprised if they would offer Panasonic or Sigma products. They will certainly stick to their own Leica brand. But let’s wait and see ...

But your average photography gear shop will sell all three brands I guess, so this question is not really crucial.     🤑

They did not say if AF will work between the 3 manufacturers. there was a interview i do not find now where they say only the mount but no cooperation with AF etc...

I don’t understand that. The dealer I trust says that the autofocus within the alliance will be possible after the new firmware for the SL and CL is ready to allow the use of the switches on the Panasonic lenses.

With the L- Mount Alliance, does it means Leica stores will in future stock up Panasonic & Sigma L-Mount products?

Not fully covering your question, but close enough, I would say. Actually, I expect the various lens-body combinations to be compatible to the extent allowed by the hardware (focus motors, etc.). From https://www.reddotforum.com/content/2018/09/photokina-2018-details-on-the-l-mount-alliance/:

"Will SL lenses perform as well on non-Leica cameras, given that the SL body and SL lenses were specifically designed to work together from the beginning?

We have a very detailed specification for the L-mount to secure best possible compatibility and image quality. In order to be an approved L-mount product, either camera or lens, it must conform completely to the agreed upon specification. So, in this way, we feel comfortable that photographers might use Leica lenses on a non-Leica camera."

"I noticed here at the show that the newly announced L-Mount lenses from Panasonic are a little different in terms of design from the SL lenses. They have physical switches on the lens for AF/MF and OIS. And one even has a manual aperture ring. Will these work with Leica SL?

Yes. The lenses are not yet on the market. There will be a firmware update for the SL in order to support these functions. This is a result of the regulatory committee meeting periodically. The committee is made up of representatives from each of the three member companies."

So we should be able to enjoy Panasonic and Sigma lenses on out CL and SL cameras, maybe by 2021. Leica's FW team always seem extremely slow to respond, especially when they come up with a stupid idea that nobody wants and have to admit their error and correct. Just two examples of this, when in an FW update, they changed the GPS tracking on the M240 handgrip to delete the last fix after 5 minutes, when it often took the grip over 5 minutes to get a good fix, thereby pretty much totally disabling the GPS. It took Leica over 18 months to reverse/correct this mistake. On the CL the most recent FW update, disabled wifi web browser connection. I told Leica UK Technical about this error over four months ago and apart from acknowledging that they see what is happening, we are still waiting for a correction.

Time will tell - but I am definitely more optimistic than you - certainly for the SL, although I am more uncertain how fast/the extent of full x-compatibility with the TL/CL.

that was what i was interested in...so many different sensors, e.g SL, TL/TL2/CL, Panasonic S1 etc etc and Sigma too..contrast-detect-AF-on-Sensor would be different for each right ?

so that's why i wondered if for example  a Panasonic 400mm L mount lens would actually work natively on the SL, just like it would on the Panasonic S1

I think worrying now about missing abilities of completely unknown products is a bit ridiculous. We will simply see how well they work together when they are finally available.

Maybe already in April, maybe later this year, definitely not starting in 2021... 😎

The three companies united to bring the common technology to success, so they will not be so stupid to start with basic problems for the new customers ...   Otherwise they could have simply continued each on their own way/direction.

The latest rumors about the impending Panasonic S lenses and cameras can be found under www.mirrorlessrumors.com .       https://www.mirrorlessrumors.com/

The 3 lenses are shown, 1.4/50, Macro 4.0/24-105 OIS and 4.0/70-200 OIS.

The ultra high resolution has been quantified as “187 MP” for the S1R and “96 MP” for the S1. If/When this rumor comes true then the Leica APO lenses can show their capabilities to the fullest ...       ✌️

I wonder if the Panasonic lenses will activate their OIS on the CL and SL cameras. I would hope as the L mount is a Leica designed standard, that they will. I know the CL has an OIS on/off in its menu which is a very hopeful sign. I have to admit, I have never mounted my 24-90SL on my CL to see if the menu item is no longer greyed out - I must try that. I would be very interested in the Panasonic 70-200, given it is a far more reasonable size than the Leica 90-280, which I found far too big and heavy, rarely using it, so sold it. I hope Leica will also offer pixel shifting on the SL2.

I just want that 35 APO to pair with my 75 and I'm set for 90% of what I shoot on the street. It's torture waiting for the delivery of these Summicrons.

Hmm, 35 Noctilux-M?  (I think not - price, more than anything else); 35 Summicron-SL?  (I have no SL Summicrons, but at the moment, I'm using my M10-D - I'm also not much of a 35mm user); 28 Summicron-SL?  (now you're talking, but then I already have a 28 Summilux-M, which works perfectly on the SL).

I don't really see a need for AF on wides, but then ...
