stunsworth Posted August 3, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 3, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Obit here... Guardian Unlimited | Obituaries | Bob Smithies Bob was a presenter on local television here in the Northwest as well as being a journalist, photographer and crossword compiler. I have fond memories of him on TV. Read the obituary to see what a well rounded and talented individual he was. Sad news indeed.
Advertisement Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Hi stunsworth, Take a look here Bob Smithies of this forum has died :-((((. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest rubidium Posted August 3, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2006 Hmmm ... I was apparently limited in simply admiring this gent for his exquisite photographs of flowers posted in this forum. Little did I know of the rest of his talents as the obituary indicates. A great loss indeed.
abrewer Posted August 3, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 3, 2006 Sad news, reluctantly received Steve. "Snotrag!"...brilliant. May Bob find himself in a place where the light is always right, and the wine always well-chosen. Thanks. Allan
andybarton Posted August 3, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 3, 2006 This is very sad news indeed. He was kind enough to post a message on my website only a few weeks ago. I always felt he was just waiting a while to stun us with more of his work. Now, we will all be the poorer for his passing.
marknorton Posted August 3, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 3, 2006 Very sad news indeed. He obviously brought pleasure and frustration in equal measure to crossword puzzlers and was posting here even last week. Carpe Diem.

fotografr Posted August 3, 2006 Share #9 Posted August 3, 2006 What a wonderful obituary for an extraordinary man. Yes, he died too young, but he certainly had a full and rich life--though not without some rather large obsticles along the way. Thanks for letting us know and sharing the words about his life. graeme_clarke Posted August 4, 2006 Share #14 Posted August 4, 2006 Steve - thanks for letting us know. It is sad that we often only learn about such varied talents and an interesting life from an obituary. Graeme
TimF Posted August 4, 2006 Share #15 Posted August 4, 2006 Very sad to hear of Bob's passing. His little column in the former Freelance Photographer, in which he decribed his travels with a small Leica outfit (first film and then digital) was always the first item I turned to when an issue popped through the door. peter_n Posted August 5, 2006 Share #17 Posted August 5, 2006 Thanks for the link. I do remember the Manchester Guardian and it was good to read about a stalwart of those times. It sounds like he lived a good life.
MrEd Posted August 5, 2006 Share #18 Posted August 5, 2006 Sad news indeed. What a bummer... Bob was such a nice guy...I'm going to miss him. He had a great life, and he lived to the fullest. RIP Mr. Smithies, When I meet you on the other side, we'll discuss the bunnies and kittie cat pictures. I'll miss you. Your friend, Ed. .
