Your post may have gone over my head but did you use Focus Magic to shrink the image or to edit it (or both). Whatever you did definitely sharpened it up on the screen.

Never heard of focus magic but I will check it out. I try to stick to LR/SEP to simplify workflow.

It is a forensic-level sharpening app that uses pixel-shifting instead of contrast enhancing to sharpen It is a PS plug-in, possibly also LR. Even better is Topaz Sharpen AI but that one uses so much RAM that it is too slow on all but the highest-specified computers.
