I was unable to send you a message directly for some reason, so I'll try this route. I'm going to be experimenting with the macro feature, I'm a big fan of Leslie Gleim's, and the Q is one of her faves. I need a remote shutter release, and learned today (at least according to B&H) that remotes are not sold for the Q. Is this true? I have been playing around with the Leica app and it's ridiculous. I'd appreciate your reply. Thanks.

Aram Langhans Posted July 16, 2022 Share #2393 Posted July 16, 2022 (edited) Tried my Q2 on a large onion flower. It is about 4" (10cm) across, so stopping down for depth of field was out of the question. I normally use a rail when taking images to stack with my Nikon and Leica 100APO, but thought I would try the touch focus feature of the Q2. So, I took 21 shots after touching on the screen to get it to focus at various points on the face of the flower from the edges to the center to try and get enough slices to stack. Then processed them in LR6 and stacked them in PS CS6 and I was very happy with the results. I can see I could have chosen a few more spots that would have given me sharper shots of the pistles and stamen projecting up more from the surface towards me, but it will have to wait until next year and a new flower. I include an almost 1:1 crop view so you can see more of the details. Be sure to see them larger by clicking a few times on each image. Welcome, dear visitor! Serryth Posted July 17, 2022 Share #2394 Posted July 17, 2022 (edited) After reading this very interesting (and wonderful) thread on Macro with the Leica Q2, I am happy to report my gears have finally arrived. This Q2 Reporter is my very first Leica!! Below is a quick comparison of the Leica Elpro 52, along with the Marumi DHG 200 & 330 achromat lenses (in case anyone is interested). There is slight vignetting if I stacked the Marumi (despite me going for the larger 58mm with a 49-58 step-up ring). The photos goes from +0 to +3, +5, +7 (Elpro) and +8. I think there is slight chance of vignetting with the Elpro 52 on the Q2, but nothing PS/LR/CO can't take care of. The vignetting is more pronounce if I stacked the Marumi 58mm. It is possible an even larger Marumi lens (>58mm) can help reduce the vignetting (if stacked), but the size and weight (of two stacked, larger than 58mm lenses) may defeat the purpose of small Q2 if I go that route. So I think 58mm is probably the largest I will go. I may return the 58mm Marumi and get a set of 52mm Marumi instead to stack them on the Elpro 52. Will report again if I do so. While these are macro photos taken with the Leica Q2, they are nowhere near the beautiful photos I see here. 😔 Hopefully I will have some nicer macro photos to share soon: Finger-crossed. * Note: Photos are uncropped (only DNG to JPG) so you can see how the zoom work (how much closer the object 'appeared' to be). Love the bokeh!! Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Serryth Posted July 21, 2022 Share #2396 Posted July 21, 2022 Apologies for using the same model (Genos) again. Although Genos' posture did make the comparison delightful as I really love the bokeh created by the Leica Q2 in this case. Photos are taken handheld (so slight out of focus may happen), I used manual focusing with focus peaking, rocking back and forth until I see the peaks show up on Genos' palm. The two 52mm Marumi (200, which is +5; and 330, which is +3) are now stackable with the Leica Elpro 55 (+7). So the three can be combined to give several different combos: Default Macro (+0), M330 (+3), M500 (+5), Elpro (+7), M200/330 (stacked +3+5, yielding +8), M330/Elpro (stacked +3+7, yielding +10), M200/Elpro (stacked +5+7, yielding +12), and M200/330/Elpro (stacked +3+5+7, yielding +15). The results speak for themselves: The more lenses there are, the heavier the vignette. Even though the center remains sharp, the light loss, combined with the progressively heavy vignette make stacking more than 2 lenses a diminishing return. (Unless you are going for that particular effect.) A final random thought is the possibility of stacking the 58mm Marumi pair to the Elpro via a 52-58mm step-up ring. Welcome, dear visitor! Serryth Posted July 21, 2022 Share #2397 Posted July 21, 2022 Here are the photo for the stacked Marumi 200/330 pairs, combination of Marumi 200/330 with Elpro 55, and the stacked ALL (Marumi 200+330+Elpro) to produce (+15) effect. The stacked ALL gave a (distorted?) circular cropped that cut off part of Genos' bank. The tube-like effect of the 3 Close-up lenses is simply too narrow for this purpose. Opening the end of the tube by using a 52-58mm (or wider) step up ring, should reduce this vignette. Hence, my final thought to experiment with a wider step-up ring. Welcome, dear visitor! Serryth Posted July 21, 2022 Share #2398 Posted July 21, 2022 What's interesting to me is the stacked 330/200 (58mm) actually produced very similar vignette compared to the 52mm Leica Elpro. Although the Elpro did let more light through (being just a single lens, and not stacked). (Note: The 52mm stacked Marumi produced much worse vignette compared to the 58mm, which is to be expected.) Price-wise: you can achieve +8 with the Marumi pair at ~$160, and achieve +7 with the Leica Elpro 55 at $450. If price and flexible combinations (+3, +5, +8) is what you are after, Marumi 200+330 is the way to go. If brand loyalty and +7 (only) is what you are after, then Leica Elpro 55 is certainly highly usable on the Leica Q2 -- despite the Q2 not listed on the recommended Leica camera list for Elpro 55). You can choose to crop in slightly to remove the slight vignette, but in my opinion, the vignette is natural and looks nice. Conclusion: Elpro 55 is very usable when paired with the Leica Q2. (If like me, you can find a used Elpro 55, I think you should go for it!) I found one used for $260, so I am a happy camper! Welcome, dear visitor!
