scott kirkpatrick Posted April 10, 2016 Share #21 Posted April 10, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Whatever SL lenses are not already in the pipeline would likely take at least 2 years to reach prototype stage ,,,, dunk Who sez they are not already in the pipeline? Leica is getting better at keeping their plans to themselves. They sprung the M 28 and M35 refreshes on the world with no advance information (because those replaced lenses were still selling). The last three T lenses also appeared with no warning, even though they didn't displace anything. You pre-announce a lens to help people decide not to buy someone else's lenses, or to assure customers that there will be more lenses in just a bit. At present the announced lens schedule only runs to YE 2016, so there must be two or more lenses presently under development for the SL in 2017. scott

Guest VVJ Posted April 10, 2016 Share #22 Posted April 10, 2016 If the Leica T is any indication a wide angle zoom will be the next lens after the 50mm....
MRJohn Posted April 10, 2016 Share #23 Posted April 10, 2016 Since I prefer manual focus and small size I am pretty much all set with my Ms and Rs and Zs. But I am tempted by the 90-280 SL zoom, in which case 2x and 1.4x converters would be nice additions. A 21-50mm/f 2.8 zoom would be interesting as a single travel lens. jonoslack Posted April 10, 2016 Share #24 Posted April 10, 2016 - Very wide zoom. - Macro. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yes Yes Peter I don't want another complete set of lenses to buy. . . I have some lovely M primes which work extremely well on the SL We need a good macro and a wide zoom . . . perhaps the macro could double as a portrait lens? ramarren Posted April 10, 2016 Share #25 Posted April 10, 2016 Yes Yes Peter I don't want another complete set of lenses to buy. . . I have some lovely M primes which work extremely well on the SL We need a good macro and a wide zoom . . . perhaps the macro could double as a portrait lens? I'm with you, Jono. I have a very complete set of R lenses (including both 60 and 100mm macro), a nice small kit of M, and the SL24-90. Really don't need much more for anything. II were going to be shooting at longer focal lengths very much, the SL90-280 would be in my sights because of the image stabilization; I just can't hand-hold lenses past 200mm steadily enough to be useful. But I don't use the 180 or longer often enough for the 90-280 to be worth the expense. Perhaps when I sell off all the now-unused-camera-stuff I'll think differently about it. scott kirkpatrick Posted April 11, 2016 Share #26 Posted April 11, 2016 Macro with AF is really nice to have. I can cite the Olympus 60 as an example of that, and it has IBIS as well. So after the wide zoom (which I don't really need, but I said above that I think they can't resist the opportunity), I foresee a macro/portrait 100 or 120 and I would be interested. scott
haydenc Posted April 11, 2016 Share #27 Posted April 11, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) My old favourite lens was a 85mm 1.2 Canon. I would love something like that. At 1.2 the area in focus was very thin and it was sometime off using autofocus. It certainly wouldn't be easy in manual focus. Apart from that Macro is the 1 thing lacking from my Leica kit right now.
adamdewilde Posted April 11, 2016 Share #28 Posted April 11, 2016 I'd like to see a strong 85/1.4 that focuses fast.. I'd like to see a wide in the 24-35 range that's also 1.4 and then the rest I'm easy on.
tom0511 Posted April 11, 2016 Share #29 Posted April 11, 2016 I want compact: 35/2.0, 50/2.0, 80/1.8, and 180/2.
dkCambridgeshire Posted April 11, 2016 Share #30 Posted April 11, 2016 I want compact: 35/2.0, 50/2.0, 80/1.8, and 180/2.8 Unlikely to be 'compact' as regards diameter. dunk
ramarren Posted April 11, 2016 Share #31 Posted April 11, 2016 I want compact: 35/2.0, 50/2.0, 80/1.8, and 180/2.8 If you want "compact" in 80 and 180 mm focal lengths, it's much more likely to be the case with 80/2.8 and 180/4. Same for weight.
drives Posted April 11, 2016 Share #32 Posted April 11, 2016 If Leica released a 35mm 1.4, I'd instantly buy an SL. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
stevelap Posted April 12, 2016 Share #33 Posted April 12, 2016 I'm going against the grain here but a lighter weight, more compact 'travel' zoom would be very nice, something like a 28/35-70/80 f/4 Elmar. I doubt it would top Leica's must do list though.
leicatraveller Posted April 12, 2016 Share #34 Posted April 12, 2016 Whilst using R lenses on the SL is infinitely easier than using them on the M240 and the M lenses are still as good on the SL as they are on an M (OK, apart from not being able to see outside of the frame anymore), what lenses or focal lengths would you like to see made for the SL? a small 35mm f2.... anyway i think in leica are a little bit crazy to do a 50mm instead of a 35mm
dkCambridgeshire Posted April 12, 2016 Share #35 Posted April 12, 2016 a small 35mm f2.... anyway i think in leica are a little bit crazy to do a 50mm instead of a 35mm Whichever lenses are introduced will have a 6cm mount diameter so none can be 'small' … it's an SL FF mount for telecentric AF lenses not a petite M mount. dunk
ynp Posted April 12, 2016 Share #36 Posted April 12, 2016 90/2.8 APO Macro for me, please!
steppenw0lf Posted April 12, 2016 Share #37 Posted April 12, 2016 The mount diameter does not matter at all, just think of the "pancake" lenses. So Leica has no good excuse to construct only "overweight" lenses. By the way, the first pancake lens was the Zeiss Tessar of 1902 !
Guest VVJ Posted April 12, 2016 Share #38 Posted April 12, 2016 Yes Yes Peter I don't want another complete set of lenses to buy. . . I have some lovely M primes which work extremely well on the SL We need a good macro and a wide zoom . . . perhaps the macro could double as a portrait lens? I think I disagree on this one. I personally do not want to invest in a system that is only complimentary to other systems... It needs a complete set of lenses... And BTW, nobody is forcing users of R or M glass to buy those lenses...
Jeff S Posted April 12, 2016 Share #39 Posted April 12, 2016 I'm going against the grain here but a lighter weight, more compact 'travel' zoom would be very nice, something like a 28/35-70/80 f/4 Elmar. I doubt it would top Leica's must do list though. I've wanted something like this for the M for some time.....using true zoom capability of the WATE. Possibly the trinity 35-50-90. For the SL, I'd be surprised if a wide zoom isn't already in line. I've been considering a 5DSR with 3 of the better L zooms, 16-35, 24-70 and 70-300. A wide SL zoom would round out a compelling EVF alternative system....unfortunately at 3x the price, camera included (about $25k vs $8k)....but that's to be expected. ramarren Posted April 12, 2016 Share #40 Posted April 12, 2016 I think I disagree on this one. I personally do not want to invest in a system that is only complimentary to other systems... It [the SL] needs a complete set of lenses... And BTW, nobody is forcing users of R or M glass to buy those lenses... I agree with that too. Even if I personally don't need to buy any of them, the SL needs a proper, complete lens system that allows all of the features promised by the system. There are a likely lot of people who are holding back on buying an SL right now simply because there aren't enough full-featured, AF lenses for it available just at the present.
