james.liam Posted September 11, 2016 Share #41 Posted September 11, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'll then throw this out for discussion; how does the Summarit compare with the old CV 2,5/75? Personally became partial to this FL during my Nikon days and regular use of a 24-70 zoom. With the M, I've decided to seek out fewer lenses, the best available and not 'settle' as I often did with Nikon. From what I've read, peak performance for the 75 APO is about ƒ/4 and little benefit appears to accrue from the great price differential. IIRC, it was designed, like the 50 Summilux, before the advent of digital M.
Advertisement Posted September 11, 2016 Posted September 11, 2016 Hi james.liam, Take a look here 75 Summarit 2.5 now very affordable. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted September 11, 2016 Share #42 Posted September 11, 2016 I have no experience with the CV 75/2.5 which is rather soft below f/4 i've been told. As for the Summicron it is the sharper at f/2 but if you don't need that aperture (giving more of less the same DoF as a 50/1), i see little reason to prefer it to a Summarit 75/2.4 if the latter is as good as the 75/2.5. TomB_tx Posted September 11, 2016 Share #43 Posted September 11, 2016 I have the CV 75 2.5 and it has been so good I have no reason to look for a different 75 (which I don't use a lot). Mine is as sharp as I want wide open. I do have a 90 Summarit 2.5, and I think the CV 75 at least as good. Of course, it needs an adapter, etc.

derleicaman Posted September 12, 2016 Share #45 Posted September 12, 2016 Yes as little or perhaps less CA than the 75/2 at first glance. Closeups are sharp also in spite of the lack of floating element. Here at 0.6/0.7m focus distance. https://photos.smugmug.com/Diverse/Summarit-7525/i-NSbBD3Z/0/O/DSC02882_c1si.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Diverse/Summarit-7525/i-x7WC4CL/0/O/DSC02997_c1si.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Diverse/Summarit-7525/i-2pHV9DB/0/O/DSC03059_c1si.jpg Sensor needs cleaning. lct Posted September 12, 2016 Share #47 Posted September 12, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Couple of outdoor snaps at f/2.5 (swings, chairs) and f/11 (house) to conclude. Great little lens indeed. Won its place among my favorite compact lenses together with CV 21/4, Leica 28/2.8 asph, ZM 35/2.8, Leica 50/2.8 v2 and Leica 90/4 macro. https://photos.smugmug.com/Diverse/Summarit-7525/i-VHPbQ3d/0/O/DSC03027_c1si.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Diverse/Summarit-7525/i-TjCjfQS/0/O/DSC02883_c1si.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Diverse/Summarit-7525/i-GrCJQZ8/0/O/DSC02895_c1si.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Diverse/Summarit-7525/i-Q5X9fqK/0/O/DSC03056_c1si.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Diverse/Summarit-7525/i-KTnZq2w/0/O/DSC02935_c1si.jpg Edited September 12, 2016 by lct
IWC Doppel Posted September 12, 2016 Share #48 Posted September 12, 2016 I did have this lens and the 90 Elmarit (last version) at one time and much preferred the rendering of the 90 Elmarit. So if it's a longer lens than a 50 your looking at.... Nothing wrong with the 75 summarit by the way

So if it's a longer lens than a 50 your looking at.... Nothing wrong with the 75 summarit by the way Matter of tastes of course. I like much my last 90/2.8 also but it is significantly more bulky and i find it softer at f/2.8. I could possibly sell it for a Summarit 90/2.4 or 2.5 but i'm not sure if they are as good as the 75/2.5.

AZA Posted December 28, 2019 Share #51 Posted December 28, 2019 On 4/2/2016 at 6:59 PM, m0n0 said: I have the Summicron, but everything I've heard about the Summarit is consistent with what has just been said here too: that the difference between them is not as vast as the price would suggest as DezFoto summarised it. The Summarit's great value. But what I'm curious about, if anyone could also comment on, is really how others are using that 75m focal length. Frankly, apart from the occasional head and shoulders portrait, I haven't found the focal length something I resort to very much, however lovely the Summicron's rendition, especially on the M Monochrom. As others have also pointed out, it's often a "neither here nor there" FL between 50 and 90. Given my usage patterns (street, travel, people in their environment) the more portable Summarit might have been a better fit. (my oher lenses are 35's and 50's, and for travel and street I find myself happy to trade speed for weight and smaller size between the Summicrons and Summilux's) I am very impressed with this lens on my M246. It is my first 75mm lens. I have a classic Summicron 50, Summaron 35, Elmar 90 & 135. Many times, I find the 50 a bit wide, but wouldn't mount the 90 because it was too narrow. The 75mm is just right for events where you stand back, then I mount my 35 for more mingling work. The 75 also lends itself to more intimate landscape work. In my large format 4x5, I have focal lengths with their equivalent (35mm) focal lengths: 75 (21), 150, (43) 210 (60), 300 (85). I usually mount my 150 and seldom my 75 or 300. I am now also going to use my 210 more extensively as it is also a macro lens and the composition works well with the 75mm Summarit.
