rpavich Posted March 28, 2016 Share #1 Posted March 28, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I never noticed this before. When I look at my M6, I noticed that I can see some of the mechanism through the glass, I never noticed this before and I've spent a LOT of time looking at my M6 Is this normal? Should I be able to see this gold thing through there or is something out of place that wasn't there before? Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Hi rpavich, Take a look here Is it normal to see this when looking at my M6 rangefinder window?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
DezFoto Posted March 29, 2016 Share #2 Posted March 29, 2016 I think that's part of the rangefinder mechanism...?
madNbad Posted March 29, 2016 Share #3 Posted March 29, 2016 I tried a variety of lights, from a desk lamp to a military grade, three lithium cell led flashlight trying to duplicate what you show on both my M6 TTL and M2 and couldn't get it to replicate. If the rangefinder is fine then it must be something with the illumination window. Perhaps a piece of the fresnel has slipped. Let us know what you find out. a.noctilux Posted March 29, 2016 Share #6 Posted March 29, 2016 It's linked to the cam-follower for parallax correction. Take the lens off, then push the roller, and you can see that it moves with the roller movement. Regards, Arnaud

Take the lens off, then push the roller, and you can see that it moves with the roller movement. Regards, Arnaud Thanks, I did that. I was just wondering why it was suddenly so visible. I'm wondering if I cleaned my window with something that made it not look so frosted or something.

Rus Posted March 29, 2016 Share #9 Posted March 29, 2016 If the camera works fine then I see no cause for alarm Of course you may also consider going to a leica store to see if you find the similar thing on a few more M6s there~
rpavich Posted March 29, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted March 29, 2016 Thanks everyone, it appears that it's not that abnormal, and as I said, the camera is working fine so I guess that's it. Edited to add: I just went to Ebay and checked out some highres pictures of M6's and it appears that mine isn't that abnormal. They seem to vary based on the lighting or whatever but I definitely could see the mechanism through the glass on many of them. PS: I'd LOVE to go to a Leica store one day and handle a few Film-M's
