MT0227 Posted March 15, 2016 Share #1 Â Posted March 15, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've been using a +1.5 Diopter on my M240P and decided to try a magnifier. Â I tried the 1.4x but that was too much; so I went for the 1.25x. Â I tried 2 examples, one from the Leica Store in SoHo and another from B&H. Â In both cases my diopter would not grab the threads of the 1.25x and would not tighten. My diopter works fine on my M and worked with the 1.4x; we tested a second 1.5 diopter in the SoHo store on thier 1.25x and that did not solve the problem. Â Â Could there be a milling problem on the 1.25x Magnifiers? Â Â Â

MT0227 Posted March 16, 2016 Author Share #4 Â Posted March 16, 2016 I went to B&H to try another' 1.25, and again, the threads won't lock tight. The diopter keeps spinning in the threads and doesn't grab properly. Must be bad milling. Thanks for the reply.
Michael Geschlecht Posted March 16, 2016 Share #5 Â Posted March 16, 2016 Hello MTO227, Â Why don't you call Leica in Allendale? Â It's only a short ride North from where you are. Â Best Regards, Â Michael
MT0227 Posted March 16, 2016 Author Share #6 Â Posted March 16, 2016 Hi Michael...I have a call into them. Â I tried today earlier today and got voicemail. Â Also, waiting to see if the replacement sent to Leica Soho tightens properly.
rafael_macia Posted March 16, 2016 Share #7 Â Posted March 16, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use a -4 diopter on my 1.25 and it works fine. Your incompatibility issue looks to be out of the ordinary. I would contact Leica. They will most likely replace it, because it should fit.
rafael_macia Posted March 18, 2016 Share #8  Posted March 18, 2016 One other thing I should mention; using a Leica screw in diopter, matched with using a 1.25 magnifier, is playing with fire, regarding losing the diopter. When I use my Leica 1.25, I like using it with the 50 and 90. But need to remove the 1.25 to use the wides. Which means unscrewing and re attaching the diopter. A pain... A possible alternative; look into one of these http://www.japanexposures.com/shop/accessories/ms-mag-x1.35-magnifier-for-leica-m.html The 1.35 magnifier has a built in adjustable diopter. People say it is not as bright an image as the Leica magnifier, but I can't see any negative effects. Having the built in diopter seems to work perfect, and eliminates the need for a diopter. If you order one from Japan, say you need it for a telescope or anything other than a Leica. they are not allowed somehow to sell direct ..... some kind of restriction. good luck rafael  there was also a 1.15 magnifier offered at one time. either should work well for you. MT0227 Posted March 19, 2016 Author Share #9 Â Posted March 19, 2016 Thanks for all the info Rafael. Â My M240 is .68, adding the 1.25 gets me to .85 which is just right for me with my 35/50 gear. Â If I shoot with my contacts I will use the 1.25x and diopter. Â Otherwise I will use my glasses, without the magnifier/diopter combo. Â I don't plan to removing the diopter all that much from the magnifier. Â I will just have to wait until Leica Soho gets one with correct threads. Â Cheers.
