Leica 1.25x Magnifier & +1.5 Diopter Fit Issue

I've been using a +1.5 Diopter on my M240P and decided to try a magnifier.  I tried the 1.4x but that was too much; so I went for the 1.25x.  I tried 2 examples, one from the Leica Store in SoHo and another from B&H.  In both cases my diopter would not grab the threads of the 1.25x and would not tighten. My diopter works fine on my M and worked with the 1.4x; we tested a second 1.5 diopter in the SoHo store on thier 1.25x and that did not solve the problem.

Could there be a milling problem on the 1.25x Magnifiers?

I went to B&H to try another' 1.25, and again, the threads won't lock tight. The diopter keeps spinning in the threads and doesn't grab properly. Must be bad milling. Thanks for the reply.

One other thing I should mention;

using a Leica screw in diopter, matched with using a 1.25 magnifier, is playing with fire, regarding losing the diopter.

When I use my Leica 1.25, I like using it with the 50 and 90. But need to remove the 1.25 to use the wides. Which means unscrewing and re attaching the diopter.

A pain...

A possible alternative;

look into one of these

The 1.35 magnifier has a built in adjustable diopter. People say it is not as bright an image as the Leica magnifier, but I can't see any negative effects. Having the built in diopter seems to work perfect, and eliminates the need for a diopter.

If you order one from Japan, say you need it for a telescope or anything other than a Leica. they are not allowed somehow to sell direct ..... some kind of restriction.

good luck

there was also a 1.15 magnifier offered at one time. either should work well for you.

Thanks for all the info Rafael.  My M240 is .68, adding the 1.25 gets me to .85 which is just right for me with my 35/50 gear.  If I shoot with my contacts I will use the 1.25x and diopter.  Otherwise I will use my glasses, without the magnifier/diopter combo.  I don't plan to removing the diopter all that much from the magnifier.  I will just have to wait until Leica Soho gets one with correct threads.

Cheers.

I also use the MS-MAG and found that it allows the 35mm frame lines to fill the OVF.  This product is brilliant.

Someone on this forum gave a great tip for when using the MS-MAG, to slip an o-ring around the turning ring, which acts to lock the adjustment in place.
