Is this a seagull? That's not a bird!!! It's a seagull!!! lol

Looks like a Western Gull to me ;)

BTW tire's no such thing as a "seagull". Western Gull, Heermann's Gull, Herring Gull, Mew Gull, Franklin's Gull, Bonaparte's Gull, Iceland Gull, yes.  "Seagull", no.  Lots of gulls live far away from the sea.

I don't know about your world, there are seagulls aplenty down under. Come for a visit.

Aston-Martin's greatest race car - '57 DBR1/2 - one of only two produced.

Fervently hoping Leica introduces a 1.4 or 2x teleconverter or an equally excellent 400 / 500mm telephoto sooner rather than later.

Gorgeous machine! I saw one, I think at Goodwood, some years ago. Thanks for the photo!

John,

Assume you mean the DBR2/2. There were five DBR 1's built, originally with a 2.5L engine but latterly with a 3L engine. The DBR2, which was far less successful was a modification of the car originally designed to run the W O Bentley V12 Lagonda engine but modified to run first with a 3.8L Tadeusz Marek A-M six but again raced later as a 4 litre. As you say only two originals built. We were testing one of the two original DBR2's a few years ago, after it had come from a very well known historic racer, who had had great success with it. It was stunningly quick in a straight line, overtaking things like Lister Chevrolets, which is just wrong. We measured the engine size with a laser bore tester and to our astonishment found it was a 4.7L engine, obviously emanating from Crossthwaite and Gardner. No wonder it was quick.

This has been discussed previously when was mentioned that a 2x extender would reduce the aperture of the SL 90-280mm to f8 at the longest setting … which would compromise AF.

And a 1.4x extender would reduce the aperture to f5.6 which might also compromise AF.

The Leica R 1.4x and 2x APO extenders are only used with manual focus lenses and I've successfully used them with non-R manual focus lenses and even telescopes …  they would never adapt to the SL lenses.

But I wonder if a front-mounted 1.25x extender might be a possibility for the SL 90-280mm? If so, a 350mm f5 lens might AF? But would such a lens offer better performance than an enlarged section of a 280mm image?

The best we can hope for is a 400mm or 560mm prime tele lens; Leica has been keen in the past to offer these focal lengths and even offered convertible lenses with these focal lengths. Convertible lenses with a common AF rear section would be expensive but could be cost effective for those photographers prepared to buy the full set.

Performance of phase-detect AF suffers at smaller apertures but the SL uses contrast-detect AF.

AF focussing modules for the modular APO-Telyt-R system perhaps?

A lightweight fresnel (like Nikon pf lenses) 400 f4 (or 350) would be wonderful. But i guessKarbe thinks it’s too much of a compromise...

I just picked up a "demo" version of the lens from the Leica Store in SoHo, NYC.

Here is one of my first images, handheld at 1/3200 at f6.3. Processed in Capture One Pro.

This is certainly a very capable lens of the highest quality.

Bud James

Couldn't care less about that **any** guide. There are seagulls where I am. Come and check. The world is bigger.

Or read here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gull

Wikipedia is a useful, but not really a reliable source...

Learned something today: there are no seagulls. However:
