Advertisement Posted February 15, 2016 Posted February 15, 2016 Hi harmen, Take a look here How about a Q monochrome?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lanetomlane Posted February 15, 2016 Share #2 Posted February 15, 2016 Seems a possibility although having a MM246 I wouldn't be interested. Regards, Tom
Paulus Posted February 15, 2016 Share #3 Posted February 15, 2016 I thought the whole idea of the Monochrom was, that it showed the, still film, users the way to a real film like photo reality. Where is the reality in a Q with an EVF?
Herve5 Posted February 15, 2016 Share #4 Posted February 15, 2016 I understand Monochrom product avoid entrance color filters, thus bring unbeatable contrast capabilities. To which extent this (certainly real) quality will bring customers I don't know. But Leica does, with the current Monochroms ;-) Even if the current printers contrast capabilities are much behind nowaday's screens, a wider luminance range is always better before raw (DNG) processing... jaapv Posted February 15, 2016 Share #5 Posted February 15, 2016 Such a small market - the Monochrom does quite well, but to add something like the Q appears to me to be quite a gamble.

Belle123 Posted February 15, 2016 Share #7 Posted February 15, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) I dream of a T or Q monochrome. I have the 246 and love it. But wouldn't mind a slightly smaller monochrome for carrying around all the time. How about it Leica???

harmen Posted February 16, 2016 Author Share #10 Posted February 16, 2016 'Having' to go for an MM would not be a bad alternative then :-). Thanks for the perspectives!
Mijo Posted February 16, 2016 Share #11 Posted February 16, 2016 It might cannibalize the MM market. I enjoy the MM1 but if given the option, might pick a monochrome Q over the MM. I mainly shoot b&w film and use the MM for low light conditions (or when I've blown my film budget for the month). The lower cost of a monochrome Q vs. a MM body might be more appealing to some... millsart Posted February 16, 2016 Share #12 Posted February 16, 2016 I think a Q with a 50mm Cron would sell far better

harmen Posted November 13, 2020 Author Share #15 Posted November 13, 2020 (edited) In the years since asking the question, I’ve become more convinced of the use case - for me that is. I love using analog Ms and prefer both process and end-result. However when it comes to night or rain, I always wished for something that could capture the darkness beyond where I push the film. As my own eyes don’t see much colour once it is all dark, I would not be interested in an RGB sensor. Why not an M mono then? Partly to be less hesitant to step out into the rain. Partly because the EVF can peek into the darkness. Let’s see how it goes when the machine arrives. Edited November 13, 2020 by harmen
SrMi Posted November 13, 2020 Share #16 Posted November 13, 2020 What would be the advantage of QM vs. Q2M? Working BBF ;-)? Price? I agree with Jaap that the monochrome version of Q2 is already a gamble, but I think (hope) it will pay off.
