Findus Posted August 1, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 1, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just out of interest, I am wondering if there is a common denominator in musical preference amongst leica users. To start off mine is definately Beethoven (Classical) and Miles Davis (Jazz) ofcourse my musical interst is much broader than these two, but they are my absolute favorites and have been so for many, many years. Leopold Green Posted August 1, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 1, 2006 Talking Heads, Belle & Sebastian, Joy Division, Neil Young, Grateful Dead, Mountain Goats, Sufjan Stevens, Fingathing, Nick Cave, Lambchop, etc. etc. I guess there will be musical commonalities but these will more reflect age range than anything else... I wonder whether it is true that there is an increased correlation of leica users also having expensive 'hi-fi' systems - male jewellery vs. wanting the best in life [debate, or not] Leopold

andybarton Posted August 1, 2006 Share #6 Posted August 1, 2006 Veering into a "What's on your iPod thread... :: Since you ask, I have Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Carole King, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bruce Springsteen, Thomas Newman, REM, Lou Reed, The Clash, Blondie, The Killers, The Kaiser Chiefs, Dave Brubeck, Beethoven, David Bowie, Roxy Music, Billy Joel, Kate Bush, The Doors, The Police, The Beatles, Nirvana, The White Stripes and loads of other stuff on mine. My classical stuff, which hardly ever gets listened to, is listened to on CD. I absolutely can't stand jazz (apart from said Dave Brubeck - "Take 5" was the first single I ever bought) What was on the iPod that Arnie gave to Tony ? stuny Posted August 1, 2006 Share #7 Posted August 1, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leopold - I've long felt that we have a higher than average number of high end audio fans on this Forum, and have at times seen evidence of it. Regarding music, we listen to a very wide range of music, and play some, too.
stumac Posted August 1, 2006 Share #8 Posted August 1, 2006 Playing French horn in a svmphony orchestra and trumpet in a 40's style swing band. I guess that is where my musical tastes are. If I were limited to one piece, it would be Ravel's orchestration of " Pictures at an Exhibition" Regards, Stuart

vic vic Posted August 1, 2006 Share #10 Posted August 1, 2006 beethoveenn is the highest achievement in humans ability to express "deepest wild winds" of the mind in my opinion. mahler is great, so is schubert and rachmaninov. i also love paganini very much. in rock... of course pink floyd, as for many other people - they were important ground in my youth development. david bowie, nick cave, led zepplin, deep purple (with ian gillan as solist), radiohead, nirvana (when i was teen).... i also love some russian authors music (in komunist times when they were almost prohebited - very deep verbal material and music with russian soul). and also israely authetic rock artists (older and conteprorary), which is really great with keen and sharp senses to life around us as main theme of the song, personal and social, and very high quality rock music. but it is limited only to israelies, mainly becasue of the languege. garyp Posted August 1, 2006 Share #12 Posted August 1, 2006 I like anything ''good'', but lean toward the stuff Andy Barton listed, plus Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn [including the album she did with the White Stripes], Lyle Lovett, John Denver, Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac but I listen to the Rolling Stones more than any other artists. pilot Posted August 1, 2006 Share #13 Posted August 1, 2006 Beethoven is fine but my favourites are Rachmaninoff, Max Reger, Franz Schmidt and Delius. Never been fond of Miles but favourites are Charlie Parker, Stan Getz and Zoot Sims. I've been doing audio stuff for 50 years and worked for one famous manufacturer for a while. Current system runs 600W per channel to some homebrew speakers. Unlike Leicas, which are exquisite, I've never found any commercial speakers to my liking. gareth_c Posted August 2, 2006 Share #20 Posted August 2, 2006 More commonality than I would have guessed: I'm a huge music fan and tend to have music on for almost the entire day (1 hour drive to work with ipod, working at the studio sometimes radio otherwise itunes, drive home with more ipod). Talking Heads, Johnny Cash, Belle and Sebastian, The White Stripes, Nick Cave, The Decemberists, John Cale, The Velvet Underground, Joy Division, Kraftwerk, Richard Thompson and Public Enemy (something of an odd one out). Right now I am back in to Nick Drake and can't play anything else. I'm also glad that this thread was created, It has reminded me to listen to all the classical music that is collecting virtual dust on my ipod and itunes. Shostakovic beckons...
