A big NO thank you. I require live view for shooting landscape on a tripod and for using my Tri-Elmar WATE without requiring a detachable viewfinder.

I am happy to see the video mode removed, but please do not remove features which have a definite utility in aiding one to get the shot.

The quiet shutter is huge. I am literally banned from some events for shutter noise. Even when not I get dirty looks in some situations. I can't blame them. Elk respond to my A7.mod shutter at 40 yards. I'm not kidding. The M9 is a little better. The 240 is alot better, but still way too loud for certain events.

I'll be curious when a comparison is made between the 240 and 262 shutter sound (and I'm positive someone will put a mic w/level meter on them ;) )  I wonder if in like-to-like comparison (i.e. M240 w/LV and advanced metering OFF) there will be a perceptible difference in level and/or pitch.

Re-cock, not shutter sound per se....but, yes, someone will mic it up.  Even so, nothing will compare to using and listening in person.  When I took my M8.2 to the dealer and played with the M240, the difference was clearer than the video/audio reviews.

Basically, the "new and improved" M9 with the M240 sensor. Well played, Leica!

Not even close.

it is a 240 without video and live view.

What's different?

Rangefinder

Viewfinder

Frame lines

LCD rear screen

Function buttons

Software

Menu system

Processor

Body shell

And probably a few other things I haven't thought about... :D

(Sorry man, couldn't resist... I know what you mean though!)

Oops, forgot that it still says Melbourne somewhere on my profile.

I'm in Canberra for a while. I will head back to Melbourne eventually, not sure when yet.

The big country town of Canberra!....welcome to (the edge of) the Monaro, lots of photo ops here if you are interested in landscapes...and the climate is better than Melbourne!   :)

Black painted M's have brass top plates and, when the paints wears off, the brass shows through.  It's considered a 'badge of honor' by some (showing long term use), so some resort to sandpaper and such...and Leica has even made faux-brassed special editions.

I am happy to stay in Sydney. This city is the jackpot in terms of photography. It's too easy here.

From a functional perspective, it's just the more refined,  24 mp version of the M9.   ;)

I agree, we will have to see. Let's hope, like the 246, this camera is actually going to be available. The M240, in reality, has only been easy to find for a year and a half. The Q seems very elusive. We'll have to see how they do with the SL. Godfrey has managed to find one :)

I'm not sure how that business model works: develop a camera, announce it, and then more than a year before many can find one. Since the 262 is mostly 240, I'd hope this will not be an issue.

But the good news is it's never been so affordable to get into the Leica digital system. M9 is a fantastic camera and now around 2200. M8 for little over a grand. 50 lux for 2300. I see FLEs for 3400. Both MM and 240 are diving under 4k.

And the cameras are more and more in use by pros, who are not tied to one body, and more drawn to Leica today for a personal camera, than in years.

Meanwhile the real opportunity: a serious EVIL system, smaller and lighter than DSLRs, yet with complete options, is wide open. Don't get me wrong, I love the SL and I think it will do fine, but I doubt it will hit the mainstream. Sony is making alot of money on the A7 system right now, but it's no real alternative to Canikon, not great with legacy, and the quality issues for the lenses are a scandal.

People are really hoping to see the "interchangeable Q" appear from somewhere, and that box could be ticked with a new small, light FF system from Fuji, Canon, Nikon or Ricoh. Wide mount, short register, and a "trinity" of fast zooms in a small overall package will make somebody a fortune someday. :)
