The 24/2.8 Elmarit-R seems surprisingly good considering the poor reviews it's had for most of it's life.

Pete.

I agree. I think the horror of it originating as a Minolta design has clouded objective analysis of its performance to some degree.  B)

A bit of fun answering the question ...

It turned out to be wet but not raining today, so I took the 15mm lens on my walk rather than the weather-sealed 24-90. It is quite a lens to work with!

These were all from last night ....... our xmas party and my retirement do ....... a bizarre night out with a mixture of strange cabaret, muzak and an attached mini-funfair ..... all fuelled by almost undrinkable wine ..... thank god it's the last one

All with the 24-90 ........ almost all at 3200 iso ...

What an amazing retirement party - and wonderful pictures!

Just got my SL and took it to Ho Chi Minh. I visit the Cao Dai Temple  near the city. I use the Leica T 23mm. for the Interior shoots I use ISO 800. I'm impress of the result using this lens.

Congratulations on your retirement and the shots! When I went I didn't have a funfair, but I did have excellent wine!

How much WB adjustment did you have to do, if any? I'm finding that even in mixed lighting the SL makes pretty good stab at getting skin tones right.

Getting the measure of the Super-Elmar-R 15mm f/3.5 in terms of geometric distortion:

23521610569_8784849be2_o.jpg
Leica SL + Super-Elmar-R 15mm f/3.5
ISO 3200 @ f/5.6 @ 1/40

Processed in LR 6.3
Elmarit-R 19mm lens profile applied, with additional +2 distortion added.

The native image captured with lens code on and without lens corrections shows a bit of mustache distortion. LR doesn't have a lens profile for this lens at present, but the Elmarit-R 19mm profile cleans up most of it. I then added a +2 distortion correction which knocks out all but the smallest amount.

enjoy!

Here's more from the Super Elmarit-Asph-R 15 (sounds like the unwieldy names they give to tiny dogs at shows, doesn't it) @ f/5.6

and you are welcome to guess the purpose of the landing net in this one:

Incidentally, I tend to just avoid having straight lines near the edges of these so that I don't have to dial in distortion corrections.  A little barrel distortion makes faces in the corners look more normal.  But Leica puts these corrections into the DNG for the SL 24-90, for the Q and presumably for the T.  Why not for the classic R lenses?  I've looked but have not seen them so far.
