Hi Tina. I'm sure you don't remember but years ago over on the LUG you told me about a new website called google.com . Ha! :-) Anyway, with these firepit and cider shots, were you auto focussing with the SL in that light? Any probs in the conditions? Thanks. Rick.

Hi, Rick - I remember!  I'm still on the LUG, including the LUG Facebook page ;-)    Yes, I used auto-focusing on the SL.  There is no way I could have focused without it!  It has the laser beam to help focus in no light, but nobody ever noticed it.  I took 72 photos in that light and every one of them is perfectly focused.  I can also use my Noctilux again with the focus assists on the SL.  It's fantastic!

More of my squares, this time with the Summilux-R 50mm f/1.4. In Hasselblad terms, this lens has the same field of view as the Makro-Planar 120mm f/4 T*.

I love how the rendering with this lens changes from wide open as you close it down. Another lovely Walter Mandler design.

enjoy!

...That lens is haunting my dreams. (Summilux-R 80!)  Then I think about my lovely 75 ' cron and realize it would be jealous :)

Actually the two lenses seem very different in their rendering.  One sorta Swiss, the other more Mediterranean.  Surely you could find room for both, and they would complement each other, no jealousy at all.  And the 80 is not hard to find on the Internet these days...

The 'Lux-R 80 is not hard to find, it's just a mite expensive at $1500 and up. I think I paid about $400 for my 'Cron-R 90, and I absolutely love its rendering and sharpness.

Scott,

I agree.  The 75AA is a much more 'modern Karbe Leica' look, razor sharp and exceptionally well-corrected whereas the 80 Lux is a Mandler lens that oozes character and transitions between white and black very gently.  A better M match for the 80 Lux would be the 75 Summilux-M, which has the same optical formula and retains the same character.

There is now no excuse for Jono not to own the 75AA and the 80 Lux.

SL, APO-Elmarit-R 180/2.8 with APO Extender-R 2x focused without aids - probably should have stopped down slightly, but shutter speed would then have been an issue.

It was eating a lizard, by the time I changed lenses, the lizard was gone (unfortunately).

Hi There Pete

Actually . . . I have a 75 summilux M on a long term loan at the moment, so it's only the 80 'lux I'm missing . . . .

But I like the look of the 75AA
