With the stacked c/u lenses at 90mm, looks as if magnification is approx 1:2 i.e. 1/2 life size … assuming the width of the quartz crystals is approx 2cm.

If so, i.e. 0.5 mag. achievable, that's as good as some marque macro lenses.

But two new Marumi c/u lenses would cost maybe £140 … whereas it's possible to buy e.g. a s/h Canon FD 100mm macro lens for less … and it would adapt to the SL very easily via an FD to Leica M and an M to T adaptors … BUT … the Canon FD macro lens is not AF and no lens EXIF data would be recorded.

closest focus at 90mm with +5 added to +3 is 65mm .... so your guess is correct.

the great advantage of the Marumis is portability ..... I usually have one in a pocket ...... and AF plus OIS and excellent high ISO image quality make handholding this combo and still using f16 or so a breeze.....

I have 100mm & 60mm R macro but would much prefer the Marumi option as there seem to be no downsides, particularly when it comes to image quality.

Alternative large diameter achromatic supplementary c/u lens options are the Polaroid 77mm diameter 250D (4 diopter) and Polaroid 77mm diameter 500D (2diopter) - which are listed cheaper than the Marumi c/u achromats.

The Canon 250D and 500D c/u lenses in large diameters should also be suitable and are frequently available secondhand.

I went to a Christmas party at the apple orchard just up the highway.  They had a fire pit and all of the apple cider you could drink.

I took lots of photos with the SL and 24-90 at 6400 ISO.  I really like the way this camera does high ISOs.  The noise looks more like film grain than digital noise.

Still early days and only up to 12500 ISO, but I have yet to see colour noise. And I agree about the luminance noise.

Hi Tina. I'm sure you don't remember but years ago over on the LUG you told me about a new website called google.com . Ha! :-) Anyway, with these firepit and cider shots, were you auto focussing with the SL in that light? Any probs in the conditions? Thanks. Rick.
