I have no experience with the M-Rokkor 90/4 for Minolta CL (pics), only the one for Minolta CLE and the Elmar-C 90/4. AFAIK the M-Rokkor 90/4 for Minolta CL is the same lens as the Elmar-C with 40.5 mm instead of Series 5.5 filters. It has the same sloping focus cam as the Elmar-C and if it behaves the same way as the latter, as i suspect it, it has the same kind of flare as the Tele-Elmarit "thin" 90/2.8 when strong light sources are just outside the frame, to a lesser extent though. In my experience with the Elmar-C, no lens hood can do anything against that but flare can be avoided by making some more shade with a hat or an umbrella or cupping the hand around the lens. Compared to the Elmar-C, the M-Rokkor for Minolta CLE has a normal focus cam, 40.5 mm filters and it draws pretty well the same way but it is almost immune from flare so it can give the feeling to be a bit more contrasty. Both lenses are nicely made otherwise and both can be recommended as the sloping cam of the Elmar-C has never been a problem for me when using it on Leica Ms let alone mirrorless cameras. Welcome, dear visitor! For anyone interested, I settled for a 90mm f/2.8 Konica M-Hexanon lens, and paid about $475. (in pristine condition).  I would say that the rendering is closer to a Zeiss lens rather than a Leica lens, a bit more contrasty than my former Elmarit, which works fine for me.  I'm a fan of Zeiss glass, along with my Leica glass, and Voightlander glass, no complaints.

The early M-Rokkor 90mm f/4 was made in Wetzlar on the same assembly line as the Elmar-C 90mm f/4, to identical quality requirement in build and optical testing. It has the alternative bezel and a 40.5mm filter thread, and is engraved near the base on the bottom of the lens "Lens Made in Germany". Welcome, dear visitor! TomB_tx Posted November 15, 2024 Share #25 Â Posted November 15, 2024 The CL version also has a sloped focus cam, while the CLE lenses do not

markc2 Posted November 16, 2024 Share #27  Posted November 16, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just bought one based on all of the information on this and other websites. It's the one that says made in Germany and it feels like to me what a Leica supposed to feel like. Seems to have a good rep and Dexter looks cute so it's a win/win. 90mm Rokkar 4.0.  iso 1250 1/11 of a sec at least that's what light room says. Welcome, dear visitor! TomB_tx Posted November 16, 2024 Share #28 Â Posted November 16, 2024 The optical layout of the 90 Elmar-C is very similar to the current 90 Macro Elmar M. Erwin Puts noted that the Elmar-C seemed to be corrected for closer distances, as they expected the Leica CL to be more of a snapshot camera. I have been impressed with the results from my Elmar-C, but I've used it mainly on my old film CL. Leica has always had good 90mm lenses - perhaps a good FL for 24x36 coverage.
ramarren Posted November 16, 2024 Share #29  Posted November 16, 2024 Yeech! What was wrong with my eyes yesterday? Horrible cyan color casts on those two shots of the M-Rokkor 90mm.
