i have a practical adapter question to add to the rest:

i have 4 R lenses (only one with ROM) and 1-2 M lenses (only one with 6-bit code).   what is my practical solution to adapters on the SL?

  • M to L and R to L (dumb Novoflex adapter) for €350 and €119 = €469
  • M to L and R to M for €350 and €330 = €680

it goes without saying that waiting until 2016 for the L to R direct adapter, and recommending using double adapters until that time are both less than elegant solutions from my favorite camera company  :(

The manual is a tad less than wholly clear about this. I thought it said that only listed favourites could be remapped to soft buttons. Magnification is a sub menu item not a main menu or favourites item. If it can be remapped, that was my main concern about the ergonomics of the SL.

Could be handy for M + R users in that one adapter could stay permanently on the body instead of removing it... Just a guess though.

Specifically, like the 24 was an essential addition to the S system, is there an 18 (or similar wide) planned in the near future for the SL to extend it's wide range?

I just wonder if an AF 18mm is needed? Given how little I actually bother to focus my 18SEM. You can really just set it at the hyperfocal distance and leave it there most of the time you are using it. More critically, of course, is how well the 18SEM will perform on the SL. It is a retrofocus lens but is it retrofocal or telecentric enough to work well on the SL sensor or is the theoretical exit pupil too close. Only 10 days to wait to see.

Not knowing much about EVF, how well does it perform with studio flash modelling lights?

(The live view on the rear screen of my canon DSLR is connected into the shutter speed and the aperture and cannot see anything in modelling lights when set to 180th sec and f 16.at ISO 100)

If there is "a true picture preview " in the Leica SL's viewfinder would  this function need to be switched off for studio flash modelling lights? And can it be switched off?

Thank you.

A Leica M 240's EVF goes "black" for about 1.5 seconds after taking a shot, greatly

impeding shooting rapidly moving targets, like birds in flight.  I've used a Samsung NX1,

whose EVF affords an (apparently) uninterrupted live view.

The Leica SL's autofocus is said to take 0.1 second.  So, there's a small delay

between pushing the shutter release and taking a picture?  Can one continue to see

through the camera during this delay (as tracking the subject is helpful)?  Can one take

multiple shots within a second, in focus via autofocus, while viewing what's in the frame,

e.g. through an EVF?

Is the design of the forthcoming 90-280 lens (11175) compatible with a tele-extender,

in principle?  I haven't seen an announcement, but I want to know whether it's feasible.

I use an Apo-Telyt-R 280 f/4 (11360).  Leica USA removed the lens-strap lugs, hurtful and

superfluous for me, putting plugs in the openings.  There's a provision for attaching a

strap to the 11175, and I'm wondering if the attachment "ring" is removable and whether

it protrudes.  I'm also wondering about attaching a tripod plate or a 'grip' to the lens.

All the best from

Yes. That's a great point, and how very nice it would be it if the 18SEM performed as well as the 28 Summilux M on the SL. I would certainly be quite happy with that. I don't have an 18SEM in my arsenal. If and when you do test, please let us know.

From the 90-280 specs:

The lens also has a removable tripod plate for attaching it to a tripod. Its ergonomic design makes the lens easier to carry in one hand and allows the attachment of a lens belt. A lockable rotating tripod collar allows the lens to be fixed at any angle. The collar has detents every 90 degrees for rapid switching from landscape to portrait format.

It can't be re-mapped under the current firmware...... but I think you may find it will not be a deal breaker ...... focussing with the EVF alone is very accurate .

Is it the M(240) the last main evolution or the end of Leica range finders? Or, Leica SL is from now on a second  main branch of the Leica tree develpement?

Thank you,

Francisco

Sure Leica will reply that it is the end of the rangefinder :D;).

But many owners of M(240) are waiting for news about this camera. Silence is not a promise.

Francisco.

The options weren't there on the demo camera I tried last Friday. Perhaps whomever reported that had a later firmware revision installed, as I heard that Leica was allowing some more custom configuration choices.

The M Adapter L (T) nets access to your M-mount lenses and Leica lens codes.

The R Adapter M nets access to your R-mount lenses and, when fitted to the M Adapter L, to the Leica lens codes for the R lenses.

From my experiments with it at the store last Friday, the double Leica adapter stack works very well. This is the solution I've purchased for the present.

When the R Adapter SL is available next year, I'll evaluate what additional capabilities it brings to the use of R lenses and decide whether to purchase one then.
