Steve Ricoh Posted November 8, 2015 Share #1 Posted November 8, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm informed it's possible to disable the LV button, but I've searched and searched but I can't find how it's done. I've been through the main menus and the set menu but it's not obvious. Anyone know?
Advertisement Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 Hi Steve Ricoh, Take a look here M240: Help, how do I disable the LV button?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted November 8, 2015 Share #2 Posted November 8, 2015 Afaik it is not possible to disable the button, but then why should you want to?
Steve Ricoh Posted November 8, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted November 8, 2015 To prevent turning on LV by mistake, eg touching the button in error as the camera is re-orientated.
jaapv Posted November 8, 2015 Share #4 Posted November 8, 2015 I don't quite see how that could happen. In the normal camera hold there is no finger within centimeters of that button. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/125097-leica-m8-m82-m9-m9p-mm-mtyp240-faqs-questions-with-answers/page-3?do=findComment&comment=1531532
Guest JonathanP Posted November 8, 2015 Share #5 Posted November 8, 2015 Actually firmware 2.0.1.5 introduced the option to disable live view - from Jono's summary of the new features: http://www.slack.co.uk/2014/Leica_M_Firmware_Update.html New light metering mode, classic, live view disabled Just as pressing the video button was a real irritation in a fast shooting environment, pressing live view by mistake could be just as disastrous, and if you were really concentrating you wouldn't know what was wrong for a few seconds: Just that the camera had slowed down drastically. This option disables the Live view button. I don't use it very often, but it's really useful when shooting an event, or another situation where you need to get a lot of shots off quickly. Hope that helps, Jonathan
Steve Ricoh Posted November 8, 2015 Author Share #6 Posted November 8, 2015 It's a feature I'd rather have by menu selection, I suppose. But anyway I thought I'd ask as I was informed by a fellow M240 user that he'd disabled his using the menu. I didn't enquire how as I thought it would be fairly obvious when I surfed the menu system. He-ho!
lct Posted November 9, 2015 Share #7 Posted November 9, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Actually firmware 2.0.1.5 introduced the option to disable live view [...] +1. Was implemented in July 2014. In camera menu, choose Light Metering Mode, Classic/LV disabled, that's all. According to the Leica leaflet « In this mode, only Classic light-metering is possible; the LV button is disabled to avoid the activation of live view by accident ». jmahto Posted November 9, 2015 Share #10 Posted November 9, 2015 +1. Was implemented in July 2014. In camera menu, choose Light Metering Mode, Classic/LV disabled, that's all. According to the Leica leaflet « In this mode, only Classic light-metering is possible; the LV button is disabled to avoid the activation of live view by accident ». I have saved this in user defined mode for situations whenever LV is needed. Other time it is off. What I love in M240 is that even if LV is off following the above method, I can use EVF if I attach it and click on the EVF button.
jmahto Posted November 9, 2015 Share #11 Posted November 9, 2015 Btw, I keep both LV and movie button disabled normally to avoid accidental press. If I need them then I fish them out from saved mode instead of wading through the menu.
Jeff S Posted November 9, 2015 Share #12 Posted November 9, 2015 I disabled the LV and video functions the same day I downloaded the FW last year. Back to a straightforward RF camera...thanks, Leica. Always makes me laugh when M240 naysayers bemoan all the 'feature bloat'. A few clicks and the features disappear, without any possible intrusion...unless I decide otherwise. 250swb Posted November 9, 2015 Share #13 Posted November 9, 2015 All that's needed now is a Firmware update to disable the shutter button and the job is complete. Steve

edwardkaraa Posted November 9, 2015 Share #15 Posted November 9, 2015 I would like a firmware update to reassign the movie button to magnification, instead of the awkward front button. Coincidentally, M can stand for Magnification too
lct Posted November 9, 2015 Share #16 Posted November 9, 2015 +1. Leica has a problem with focus magnification. Front buttons of both M and SL cannot be used comfortably and there is no back button near the right thumb on either body. Poor ergonomics... We have auto magnification on the M when turning the focus ring at least but i'd prefer manual magnification like on other competent bodies sometimes. As for the SL, well i won't repeat ad nauseam what i think of this so-called professional body from this standpoint.

But the SL implementation would make it rather unhandy for the main use I would put it to, I fear. If I were considering the camera it would be close to a deal-breaker to me. No rocket science to assign focus magnification to the joystick i guess but i won't wait 1+ year to get a firmwre update like i did for the M's auto iso until July 2014.
