New Leica M in September 2016? The speculations.

September has arrived in central Europe. Within an hour it will be here too. A few hours later it will be a new month in the Americas.

Still no sign of the new M in September 2016 after 66 pages of complete speculative nonsense.

What has anyone gained or learnt from this?

I'm puzzled.

However , at least we had some fun over languages for a page or two.

Back to sleep now, Rumpelstiltskin, we'll wake you if something happens. :D

I learned that Michael Hußmann is not writing about any new M for the LFI Photokina issue.

"Yawn, I feel tired," said Rip van Winkle after hearing that news. "Definitely time for bed after all that excitement."

"Don't forget to take out the battery from my M before I drop off," said Rip to Mrs Winkle, who was expecting something more exciting after 100 years of inactivity.

"Maybe you'd better charge my batteries instead," said the lovely Mrs Winkle, who stomped off to read 99 years of Good Housekeeping magazine.

More later from the Winkles after any real news. It could be a while.

No it doesn't does it?

... cue flurry of speculation that this longer than usual development cycle evidences Leica are not limiting themselves to incremental improvements on their existing technologies, but are now undoubtedly chanelling all of their magic towards truly revolutionary tech.

doesn't sound like anything much  'cept new Cine lenses for "professionals" ;)

Just received Leica's Photokina email, doesn't sound like there will be a new M announced.

The Canon 1Ds MkIII is ten years old technology. You should rather compare with the AF of the 1DX MkII, which is from another world.

You are correct. I've had my MKIII for 9 years with no mechanical issues and image quality that would only disappoint the most fanatical "pixel peeper" in the group.  Still need the MKIII for certain things, but with the SL, I'm all manual M lenses and love it, with marginally better DR and image quality than the MKIII of course :)

So I've forgotten how long-in-the-tooth this thread has become, with the first posting being Nov. 4, 2015! The human condition is humorous if not problematic in some circumstances.  What started as a bug in someone's ear, has morphed into a world-beater of a camera, and now might fizzle into another crumpled and discarded lottery loosing-ticket.

I am talking about wide open....

The attached, and detailed crop were shot with 35mm M @ 1.4 on the SL. I shot 8 variations on this for her expression.  All were spot on. Were I to try this shooting quickly with my M240, my hit rate would not have been 100%.  I'm just more accurate with the EVF, even when shooting quickly.

You are not a purist. A truly hard trying skilled M shooter would get 99% with the M, we are not among those and we shouldn't shoot with the M.....  :D

I have mixed feelings about no new M.   If this is true I will be only mildly disappointed because my M lenses are doing fine on my SL, and my M240 remains a solid alternative.  Maybe it is because I don't know what I am missing but I do know that a new M is not going to transform me into a great photographer.
