New Leica M in September 2016? The speculations.

You have to read his claim properly - 99% hit rate provided he tries hard. Not an unbelievable (if valueless) boast.

A 99% hit rate could even include a few "slightly out of focus" (btw, a great book). Hit rate was not defined. - I once took a class with a photographer and he was saying that he deliberately shot for a month out of focus. There are great examples of out of focus images out there which one can call a "hit".

This thread seems to drift a bit from what we get, i.e. "the speculation", to what we want or don't want. I think the want/don't want can only be reflected in the M 2018 at this point in time as the M 2016 (if there is one) must surely be in production.

I really dont have that much more difficultly focusing with the longer lenses than the shorter ones, though I'll admit to taking more care in general. The focusing patch is the same size regardless of focal length. OTOH, regardless of focal length a lot depends on what you happen to be targeting. Shooting a chaotic or repeating pattern can be quite frustrating at times.

I am baffled. Why would anyone buy a camera which they can't focus properly? If you can't focus an M rangefinder properly you either have discriminatory eyesight problems and struggle to judge precise image coincidence (given the probably demographics of M users, this isn't unlikely), or you are shooting subjects which are not viable on a rangefinder. It really isn't rocket science.

After 10 months and almost 1300 posts, it's a wonder it hasn't drifted into pie recipes.

Those rumours about a new CCD rangefinder camera this year, and the sketches of the camera with the curved body....HanDe Vision perhaps? All of the sketches have an "H" monograph on the camera strap and various other places the name looks the right length. They have introduced a line of 24, 35, 50, 90 rangefinder lenses over the last year. Maybe they are looking to bring out a crop-sensor body?

Pure speculation on my part.

Hehe yes unless it is another mirrorless Leica. If you mean the Prosophos pics the lens used looks like an M and there is no adapter ring so it could be a full frame camera. A compact SL perhaps? My crystal ball shows two new Leica cameras in 2016 but it is a Sony crystal ball so i cannot rely on it entirely :D

I am talking about wide open....

I don't know if it would be faster but it could be less accurate, especially wide open, so....

I have a 90/2 which I use on my M240. My hit rate with it is pretty good (improved when moving to M240 from M9). If I were to use an EVF, I would use three times more time to focus and the hit rate would not improve significantly. Focusing with a rangefinder is much faster than with EVF.

Yep. The design and features of the next M are already fixed and won’t change due to anything written in this thread – even when the next M won’t be introduced at this year’s photokina, but at a later date, be it in 2016 or 2017.

you're a hard nail...

At this size it doesn't prove much...I am not saying that it's not possible to nail focus wide open with the rangefinder, but it's more prone to various variables

75/1.4 @ 1.4 with OVF

I am sorry, but that can't be 1.4 at that distance. No way both eyes can be in focus when they are not parallell with the camera. The dof is way to thin at 1.4 om 75mm that close...

Yes is at 1.4, the image was slightly cropped

If you look carefully the near eye is more in focus than the far eye. It is hard to see, as the whole image is a bit soft, probably due to motion blur. Critical focus is probably on the nose bridge.

I don't see the face, where the focus is, to be soft

You forgot the most likely option: camera (RF) is in need of calibration. This is why I hope some day we could perhaps see a well implemented digital rangefinder patch :)
