JOCO34 Posted May 2, 2016 Share #710 Posted May 2, 2016 I can't wait for the new M240 to come out. Right now my M240 has all kinds of issues like too heavy, too thick, it's chrome not sexy black that rubs off, it has a rear screen of all things, just terrible. Once the new model comes out my M will become an instant "Classic" able to leaps tall buildings while shooting fantastic images. It will lose inches and become a svelt sexy older Leica M much desired by those in the know. Classic Leica lenses will sharpen up and drop their fungus just to be attached to it's lens mount. It will be wonderful!
Rick Posted May 2, 2016 Share #711 Posted May 2, 2016 Jaap, I haven't heard that, but I did hear that we will all want one. Rick

IkarusJohn Posted May 2, 2016 Share #715 Posted May 2, 2016 So, what do we know? the M(240) was released in September 2012 (perhaps prematurely, in the sense that it wasn't really ready to ship until this time 2013) since that time, we have an improved sensor (Q then SL) we have better EVF Jaap knows something, and wants everyone to know he knows something, but isn't telling Jono knows a lot more, but won't let on that he knows anything What can we expect? Well, an optical rangefinder (I'm hoping), the same form factor and, if Jaap is right, a more than incremental improvement (read, hype and rather extravagant marketing claims). Yay. I won't be buying. Cheers John

It will be wonderful! That's right. One of the ground breaking features in upcoming M is to make lenses vibrate to get rid off fungus. If you are using newer lenses then also this feature is useful since you can use the vibrating camera body as a personal massager (being waterproof, it can be used in shower too). haydenc Posted May 3, 2016 Share #718 Posted May 3, 2016 The upgrade has to be significant as the M240 is a great camera. When I bought the M240 I had the belief that I would hold onto it for a long long time. Now having used it for a few years, I do wish it had a few more bells and whistles which I know are not really what the M series is all about. For me it would be nice to be able to tether the M without having to buy a multifunction adapter. Same with GPS. I have wifi on the SL and T, and it is a nice little addition, especially the ability to set off the shutter without touching the camera. However with these additions, it does future proof the camera so it can be used in more situations. So if I had to do a list. Bigger/Better sensor Processor (SL can process 11 frames per second @ 24 MP, so 4-5 frames a second @ 36 MP would be nice) USB 3 in camera GPS Wifi Bigger EVF with better resolution Better weather sealing/dust protection Lighter & thinner body The biggest rangefinder window possible!! A pc socket would also be nice so you could set off a flash while using the EVF. On flashes, it would be great if Leica licensed Nikon/Canon's flash protocol. When ever you try and source wireless flash units with TTL you will most brands only make them for Canon and Nikon. Currently I can't find one that is available for Leica. On the better weather sealing, I have an X2 that uses the same EVF as the M240. One day using it near the sea with a fair bit of sea spray/salt water in the air, it stopped working. I had to send the camera back to Leica where they replaced the EVF socket on the camera and also cleaned up the pins on the EVF.
Peter H Posted May 3, 2016 Share #719 Posted May 3, 2016 Without being specific (we can all make lists) if the next M is as big an improvement over the M240 as the M240 was over the M9, I will find it hard to resist.
IkarusJohn Posted May 3, 2016 Share #720 Posted May 3, 2016 Without being specific (we can all make lists) if the next M is as big an improvement over the M240 as the M240 was over the M9, I will find it hard to resist. Of course it will be. I wonder why you suggested in another thread (or was it this one) that I was more interested in camera gear than taking pictures; or something to that effect. I always understood you were happy with your M(240).
