edwardkaraa Posted November 17, 2015 Share #301 Posted November 17, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love the frame preview lever. This is really ridiculous. The lever has been on the camera since 1954 and now someone claims the video button is more important.
Advertisement Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Hi edwardkaraa, Take a look here New Leica M in September 2016? The speculations.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LocalHero1953 Posted November 17, 2015 Share #302 Posted November 17, 2015 Not ridiculous to me! I've hardly touched it since my first M in 1982. I hardly use video either (it's disabled on my M240), but I've used it more than the preview lever. I'd be interested to know if Leica did a survey before removing it. A Marmite issue. lct Posted November 17, 2015 Share #303 Posted November 17, 2015 We will have the lever on the next M hopefully. It is way more useful than the video button for me, even if i'm used to using M framelines since the seventies. Now the video button does not bother me at all so aside from some newbie's arrogance, i don't see where lies the problem if any.
jaapv Posted November 17, 2015 Share #304 Posted November 17, 2015 I would like to have the framelinelever back, not that I used it frequently, and the Video button - but as programmable button.
edwardkaraa Posted November 17, 2015 Share #305 Posted November 17, 2015 I think the video button should be configurable to image magnification. Video is disabled on my camera too. The frame lever was removed on the M by Leica to save on cost, but promptly reintroduced on the M-P. I hope Leica will be kind enough to keep it on all M versions. It is in my opinion one of the distinctive features of a rangefinder.
mjh Posted November 17, 2015 Share #306 Posted November 17, 2015 The frame preview lever useless? Pretty much so in my view. I’d wish Leica had not caved in and brought it back. The M (Typ 240) looks much cleaner without it.
edwardkaraa Posted November 17, 2015 Share #307 Posted November 17, 2015 Advertisement (gone after registration) Pretty much so in my view. I’d wish Leica had not caved in and brought it back. The M (Typ 240) looks much cleaner without it. Looks are a matter of taste. I like it, you don't. Fair enough. But I do find it useful. I used it quite often on the M9 and M film cameras. If the next M doesn't have it, I'll wait for the P.
Exodies Posted November 17, 2015 Share #308 Posted November 17, 2015 The frame preview lever is going to become pretty cumbersome if they ever fix the awful optimisation of showing frame lines in three pairs.
TheHobbit Posted November 17, 2015 Share #309 Posted November 17, 2015 Leica has registered the Leica M Typ 262. Could be a new M?
IkarusJohn Posted November 17, 2015 Share #310 Posted November 17, 2015 I never use the preview lever.
UliWer Posted November 17, 2015 Share #311 Posted November 17, 2015 This Forum should introduce a preview lever (or button) for future Leica models.
IkarusJohn Posted November 17, 2015 Share #312 Posted November 17, 2015 How long before we have SL2 Speculation? I'm rather surprised we don't have a T2 thread yet.
efreed2754 Posted November 17, 2015 Share #313 Posted November 17, 2015 Well it seems some have such definite opinions of M features. May we agree photography is an "art," which by its nature involves people expressing themselves in various ways. If so, how about including more features to be used by the artist as he/she sees fit given the situation or individual preference. Are some really that offended an M has a preview lever, a rear screen, a video feature, or takes a view finder to monitor lIve view and more? Features may increase costs somewhat but also make the tool useful to a larger population -- which keeps Leica here to kick around. For the record I miss the preview lever when shooting classical concerts from a fixed position; never purposely took a video; only occasionally chimp; use the view finder rarely etc. That said my interests may change and having more of these features enhances my value of the M and its utility. Live and let live as some say!

luigi bertolotti Posted November 17, 2015 Share #315 Posted November 17, 2015 Leica has registered the Leica M Typ 262. Could be a new M? Yes... but it could be either a "really new M" in the sense we are speculating here... or some "special-intermediate" model...
bocaburger Posted November 17, 2015 Share #316 Posted November 17, 2015 The only thing I am prepared to say with utmost certainty about the upcoming new model in 2016, is that I will not be buying one until at least 2018.

Same here. It is unfortunate that the most dynamic thread on M (240) concerns a new M. I am still more interested in what the current one can do... Peter Kilmister Posted November 17, 2015 Share #320 Posted November 17, 2015 After all these hours of speculation all we really need is a box that is superb. Hmm! I love the optimism.
