Eucalyptus Dieback, found mainly in stands of Ribbony gums, over a large are near Cooma, NSW. All the trees are dead. It was once thought to be caused by insect attack, but no absolute cause has been settled on,

and now climate change is being mentioned.

Viewed objectively, much of the landscape of the Australian hinterland is a mess, littered with shaggy eucalypts, half or wholly dead, indiscriminately shedding branches and straggly bark, they stand starkly amongst the rocks and tussocks,

constrained by scruffy fence lines, in distance, dust and heat and flies, and yet my heart never fails to lift....

Dee,

these trees are the only landmarks as it seem under the wide sky. B&W is the only means to bring out the nice composition and the pure light. Impressive captures. Indigenous people used these landmarks and signs on the ground finding their way, I would need a compass....

Mark,

this series of your Uluru captures is quite amazing: first you managed to avoid the typical mainstream shots, secondly you found an abstraction that conveys all of its magic. Well done altogether!

Good Evening Dee

I'm particularly taken with the trees and granite boulders, receding off to the right (#163).  So much depth, again.

It'd definitely be a framed one to hang.  Methinks one of your very best posted so far.

But to be fair, I'm enjoying everyone's spectacular interpretations of our harsh and beautiful country.

cheers  Dave S

Very nice Mark.  You are good with your light...love the glow through the leaves, and the subtle colours generally (#169).

Another unusual aspect. Would love to just sit there for a few hours.

All the best Dave S

PS overpost while I was down loading...the following one is very peaceful too.  I know why it is so sacred.

Mark,

So I'm going to comment again, with some envy, on how much country you cover with your cameras. You have crisscrossed Australia and posted a selection of really beautiful images for us to enjoy.

The South Coast photo (above) really captures the deep green stormy wildness that ocean often has, so different to the coast and sea further north. Your Uluru images are lovely also, these last two

of the gums sheltered within the hidden canyon are just magical. I have really enjoyed the opportunity this thread has provided to see so many of your images that I have not seen previously.

Trevor, this is great...another contributor to this thread! I like this image a lot, nice segments; sky, sea and sand and no sign of people, which gives the whole image a slightly surreal quality.

Keep posting.
