Popular Post MarkP Posted October 21, 2015 Popular Post Share #1 Posted October 21, 2015 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Dee's landscapes of the Monaro got me thinking about starting an Australian landscape thread. The light (and landscape) here is so different to that elsewhere. The early European painters who came to Australia particularly commented on the very different light and alien landscape compared with Europe and elsewhere. So I thought that with the support of other Antipodeans we might get this up and running. Film or Digital, Colour or B&W. Feel free to add photographs even if previously posted elsewhere in the Forum. Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) Northern Territory M240, 2.8-4.0/28-90 Vario-Elmarit-R Welcome, dear visitor! EoinC Posted October 21, 2015 Share #5 Posted October 21, 2015 Very nice, Mark. I used to work out on the Gunbarrel Highway on the WA side of the border. You've captured the sense of vastness well.

EoinC Posted October 21, 2015 Share #10 Posted October 21, 2015 Thanks Eoin but what were you doing working in such a remote location?Hi, Mark. I and a partner owned an exploration drilling rig, and used to go out there for several months at a time. If you ever find a copy, read "Last of the Nomads", an account of a couple from a tribe North of Wiluna who eloped into the Western Desert, and were eventually tracked down in their old age, when family were worried after prolonged drought.

david strachan Posted October 21, 2015 Share #13 Posted October 21, 2015 (edited) Great idea Mark. Ooh how I miss my desert explorations; now retired. But they were always my favourite places with no human intervention. So peaceful, so mysterious. All my early photography was with other brands; I'm new to Leica with not too many useful images. I'll contribute what I can though. Thanks Dave S Edited October 21, 2015 by david strachan

A miller Posted October 21, 2015 Share #16 Posted October 21, 2015 Oh adam, I'll just load up the M7 & X-Pan with Ektar and take the chopper out today to reshoot them . Sorry for not beng clear . I meant these "types" of shots, which i take you fairly ready access to. I am happy to patiently wait. The XPan and Ektar sound like an epic combo for some of the expansive scenes. Enjoy!

hepcat Posted October 22, 2015 Share #18 Posted October 22, 2015 Mark, thanks so much for sharing these. I love Australia and it's amazing scenery. I'll probably not have an opportunity to return, but I really enjoy seeing the scenery vicariously. Roger

platypus Posted October 22, 2015 Share #20 Posted October 22, 2015 Canola Crop Shock pano. Traditionally the Monaro is (and always has been) mixed grazing country for sheep and cattle, cropping is generally thought to be the ruination of good land. Imagine the shock and in some cases anger, that ensued when the new owner of this paddock put in a Canola crop this spring. That's our shearing shed in the background.
